Just Got Up And Running After 4 Weeks

My 21CN Unlimited was due to go live tomorrow (21/2/13) but the work on the exchange got done today and I'm up and running.It's been a long ol wait of 4 weeks from placing my order on the 20/01/13 and getting a new line installed to getting online...chuffed to bits to be officially Plussed...yay.
I had to use the manual setup wizard for my router to get it up and running...it didn't do it automatically for some reason...even after a reset.Anyway my 10 day training period starts tomorrow and just did a speed test...I'm a mile by road from the Rose Street Exchange in Edinburgh and the street cabinet is about 25 metres from my building.I'm a total noob to broadband and not sure what to make of the speed test...seems like 20CN speeds rather than 21CN but I could be wrong.
I've been using a wireless 3 dongle to get online til now....which gave around 2,7Mb/s so this is obviously better right off the bat.

The fastest download you can achieve on 20CN is 7.150Mbps !
So it looks like you are on 21CN.

I would expect more being so close to the exchange. I float around 17-19 DL, with a usual sync of 23,000 odd and recently had a short-lived peak of 20 DL. I am under one quarter of a mile from the exchange and expect better. My line is apparently 1.2km according to my attenuation, but I've had faster elsewhere on a longer line. Right now, since some testing by PN I am only synching at 21,000 odd and my DL is all over the place at the moment with seemingly every gateway really screwy. So anyway, your router stats will give a better idea of what you should be getting.

Can you find the 'downstream attenuation' in your gateway's ADSL status page ?
If so enter that attenuation into this - http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/max_speed_calc.php
to get an estimate for what your line might be capable of.

Once your 10 day training period is complete, you should ask to have your upstream speed uncapped.

If that's the TG582n log in and this shows you where to find your stats. Under DSL Connection, click on View more & just do a copy and paste into a post.
If you run the BTw speedtest, ignore the red pre-amble except mke sure nothing else is using the Internet connection, then when the fiirst stage is complete, Click the Further Diagnostics at the bottom of the page, when complete copy and paste those to the post. The BT IP profile for the line will indicate the maximum download speed you can achieve at this time, but you need to check that your Current Line speed (Login required) is at least equal to the BT IP profile. Sometimes it can take a few days to catch up!

I can't get into my router for some reason purleigh....it just says waiting for and wont load...no idea why.

Are you logging into it with the information on the card that came with the modem/router under "Router Access" ?

Just a thought, make sure you haven't inadvertantly blocked cookies for the address. If you haven't, you might want to try to clear cookies and see if that helps.

Also check your Firewall isn't blocking 192.168.1.253 or 192.168.1.254
Edit: Also close the browser and clear the cache.

Checked cookies and there aren't any for it to clear....cleared cache and restarted browser and it's still the same.
I used a programme earlier called XP Smoker Pro to optimize my connection and it ticked the box that I use an PPPOE connection...but I already had used it prior to this and it was fine.

I had a read around but ended up turning the router off then on again and left it for 20 mins but the internet light was still red.I'm connecting to it on wi-fi....so I tried logging into my router which worked but there was no internet connection...so had to manually enter my broadband username and password in the router settings to get a connection.Do I have to do this each time I restart the router ?

It wouldn't do further diagnostics...said there was a problem and to try later.My current line speed in my plusnet account says 21Mb...but I assume that's just the default before it really tests it.

Are you sure there is no View more
With the DSL stats, you normally click on View more so that it shows all the Noise Margin, Attenuation and Error figures.
Can you say what Firmware version it is?

View more is shown only on the Broadband Connection summary page. If you click View more on that page, or DSL Connection in the navigation menu you get the page you copied.
From this page you need to click Details (top right) to get the full information being requested. It will be like:

Hope the above helps. And you shouldn't have to enter your username and password every time you reboot/restart the modem/router only after a factory reset. If you continue to have trouble with accessing stats, logging in etc., it might be a good idea to do a factory reset and start again.
You can do a factory reset by the paper clip in the back method or if you can log in to the modem/router, click on the "Technicolor Gateway" tab and then pick the "Reset my Technicolor Gateway" task from the Pick a task..... list. BUT Ideally, go off-line first (see below)
If you want to change the configuration, do a factory reset, or if you are experimenting, or even at any time you want to reboot/resync, swap filters etc., I suggest you use this method -
Do a Disconnect of your PPP Internet session with the ISP - you need to login to the modem/router interface and look for the Disconnect button to click on, now wait a few minutes, then power down. Wait a moment and then unplug from the line.
Then wait at least 10 minutes (with the line disconnected) - during this time you can alter the modem/router configuration, you can reboot as may times as you like offline to make sure your changes have stuck, you could swap any filters, or the modem/router, connect to test socket, etc. - it doesn't matter if you take longer than 10 minutes) and then power up again & connect to the line.
You may need to login to the modem/router and click on Connect to re-establish the PPP Internet session.
If you check the stats immediately (The Noise Margin [SNRM] shown is usually the current Target Noise Margin).
I usually recommend you do this no more than 5 times in an hour, and then leave it alone for the rest of the day. The reason for this procedure is to help prevent the Exchange DLM from thinking you have a dropping connection with the possible consequences of a raised Target SNRM and/or on 21CN, a banded connection..
You can use the Disconnect/Connect (without a power down) to Gateway hop.
You don't have to wait for the automatic setup if you do a factory reset, you can enter your details yourself, which you could do whilst still offline.
Should you wish, you can turn off the TR-069 in the member centre (login required). You can read the FAQ on TR069 here.

Thank you both for the info...it's much appreciated...I'm a complete noob and need walked through it all at this stage.I thought I was meant to wait for the internet light to turn solid green before I logged in...but I could only connect by going into the router admin page and entering my user/password to start the internet connection.Thanks for the advice on restarting/resetting without incurring the wrath of the DLM.
