My trusty DG834G v4 finally went to the great scrapyard in the sky (well not literally as it is sitting on a shelf behind me feeling unloved and rejected) which is its own fault for failing to work as a router (I know it held sync and I know it kept the PPP session going when the noise margin dropped to under 3dB with a sync speed of 4,800kbps even though the error rates were somewhat horrible) but despite all those benefits it failed miserably in the main task which was to allow me to access sites on the internet and receive emails.
So as a temporary measure I resurrected my D-Link 2680 router which although reporting an attenuation 6dB higher than any other router at least worked. That is until the noise margin dropped to 4dB and then it lost sync which meant that my nice 4,800kbps suddenly dropped to 4,000kbps - not good
Obviously my line likes Broadcom chipsets - I know this because the Netgear DG834G v5 only ever achieved 4,000kbps on a good day (that went back to Amazon)
So what did I do - I ordered a router from Plusnet - TG582n - which arrived very promptly and even fitted (just) through the letter box
Plugged it all in and without me doing anything it just worked and synched at 4,960kbps (Thinks it won't hold that ::))
Did the usual fiddling to harden up the wireless then left it going while monitoring it on routerstats including a usergraph of uncorrected errors.
To my surprise it has held synch ever since with a noise margin dropping to 1.2dB at one point and the uncorrected errors being significantly better than on my old Netgear which wouldn't have held that sync rate over night.
To show the results here are the graphs of the noise margin and also the current stats a

End result - I am really impressed with its performance on my fairly poor and noisy line
You may appreciate that I don't use the wireless unless daughters come to stay with multiple wireless devices of various degrees of complexity,which used to wreck my usage allowance until I moved to unlimited, so I can't comment on how it will work in that mode.
To add - I liked the fact that one of the items in the box was a neat plastic card giving the router setup details including login information and the wireless network details

Well I'm glad you're finding it working well so far Jim. IIRC that's with ADSL1 on 21CN set at the exchange end, rather than the modem/router?
A couple of queries, is the day/night SNRM swing typical for your line compared to your old DG834G v4? How does the CRC error rate compare? I noted your comment about the improvement in uncorrected errors. jelv's asked my other question

I don't have any figures recorded but the CRC errors were typically much higher although I tended not to look at those but at the RS Uncorrected which aren't reported from the TG582n
The normal swing depends on the sync rate - the higher the sync the greater the swing
Typically at 4,800kbps with the Netgear it would start at 6dB then drop to a low of 3dB
If it synched at 4,900kbps then it would drop to under 2.5dB with so many CRC errors the line would be effectively unusable and would usually resync at about 4,100kbps
It is on ADSL1 21CN with capped upstream as my line just didn't like ADSL2 and in fact I get better speeds on ADSL1
Before you ask - I only have one master socket with an ADSLNation filtered faceplate and no other sockets in the house as I disconnected them

Yes I can confirm this isnt a bad rounter. It holds up well under FTTC too. I can also confirm once I had found the best channel the wireless is also very good for a router with no external aerial

Me and my big mouth - noise margin dropped to 1.1dB and lost sync
Will need to do a manual resync in the early evening to get a stable speed of about 4,800kbps

Jim,
I suggest you ask them to update your firmware - I found the latest held the connection better.
It might be worth having another go at ADSL2+ after upgrading to see if it is better.

Just did a resync - now at 4,832kbps so will see what happens

I had the same router while i was with o2 and it was the most stable and gave me the best sync, None of the other routers o2 used in the past would hold my connection with a 3db setting but this technicolor had no issues at all.

That broadcom 6359 in the TG582 seems to work well on longer lines.
