My Dad has just re- contracted internet and phone for 12 months (last week). Whether that is exchange dependent or if he is going to get "stiffed" sometime next year, I don't know.

We have had the an email saying that our landline will cease working by 2027.

Is there any way to find out more specifically when?

I know that our exchange is in “tranche 19” for the changeover process, but I couldn’t find a date.

Not that I'm aware. Then again I thought PlusNet would pull the plug on their phone service around Aug / Sep this year with 90 days notice so it would all be done and dusted by Christmas.

Does your phone line matter to you?

If it was up to me the landline would have been dumped five years ago. But it’s for my elderly parents, one of whom hates mobile phones, and they won’t switch to using one.

I should have added that 31st January 2027 is the absolute (currently) termination date for PSTN. If this date sticks then I would imagine PN will pull the plug a good while before this. OpenReach have provided an incentive for this - in April the wholesale line charge goes up by 20%, then in June if goes up another 40% and finally goes up another 40% in September.

Your parents will have to move to a VOIP service sooner or later - probably sooner.

Two basic choices - stay with PN and port the number to a VOIP provider or move ISP to one who does both.
