Unable to make certain calls from my landline

Can anybody help me? My landline works Ok because I can receive calls - and make certain calls such as local ones. But if I try to call other numbers, with codes, I only get the 'unobtainable' noise. What's going on?

OK, @pat14 , in that case I suspect a fault somewhere in the Openreach network - my suggestion is to first report the fault via: https://www.plus.net/help/report-a-problem/ , and if that comes back with 'no problem found' - as I suspect it may,. report back here and a member of the Community Team should be able to investigate further.

Thanks so much for that, John. The trouble is I'm even having problems reporting a problem! Plusnet wants me to text - which I can't do because I don't have a mobile phone. Nor can I phone them on the landline - because I get the 'unobtainable' noise. A sort of catch-22.... Despair.

I see your problem, @pat14 . Unfortunately, in this case, you will have to wait until one of the Community Team (Plusnet staff who patrol these forums) picks this topic up, which could be next week, as they are a bit thin on the ground at weekends.

No problem , Pat - I, along with other forum members are prepared to help where we can, but we can't, unfortunately solve problems like this.

One thought, while waiting for staff help - is there anyone (neighbours) who still have a landline phone, who you could see if they have the same problem? It could well just be you, but it would be an idea to rule out a more widespread problem.

Good idea, John. I've just phoned my neighbour (got through successfully) and she made a non-local call on my behalf. It worked OK for her, so it looks like it's just me, dammit.

In a way, Pat, that is good news - it means the problem should be easier to locate. Famous last words, maybe, but useful to know.

I assume you pay PN, and not BT, for your phone service?

Just a thought, but have you tried a different telephone to see if it is your equipment that is causing the problem?

For example, if the "0" button wasn't working properly, you would have difficulty in dialling any number that required an STD code.

Incidentally, in some areas even local numbers require the full STD code + number to be dialled.

Such a clever suggestion - I dug out an old handset and tried with that. Alas, the same result. I could call local numbers but nothing with an STD code. Just the 'unobtainable' whine. For one blinding moment I thought you'd cracked it!

Sounds as though outbound call barring might have become enabled.

@Tina11192 Unless there is personal data included in the response, why has this been covered by a ticket, rather than a direct reply on here? Some of us may find it interesting/useful to see the issue.
