Is it possible to stop my landline phone accepting text messages without stopping other facilities on my landline phone? I do not like the robotic voice which brings the messages.

I rang 0800 587 5252 and selected option 5 to stop all text messages. I have since attempted to send a text message to my home phone. The message did not come through but there was no indication when sending that the message could not be delivered. This is no use at all as someone sending an SMS text would not be aware that the text would not be received. I will now have to re-instate the text message service if I can. Is there not a plusnet guide to the SMS texts service that I can refer to or is the service not under plusnet control?

Try using that same to number to reactivate it? No, it is not under PN control.

The service is supplied by BT Wholesale

Thank all of you who responded to my enquiry. I decided it was safest to re-instate the SMS service on my landline phone, which I have done by phoning the 0800 587 5252 number. I do, however, wish that the service would inform senders if the SMS service has been switched off by the intended recipients. Kind regards to all.

Where do you draw the line?

SMS is not an end to end service - it is a send and hope service. Your logic would require every sending service to know the status of every end point. To do that the sending party would need to enquire of the recipient at the time of sending.

You expect far too much of a Simple Messaging System.
