Incoming Calls and out going not working.

Ok, so we rarely use our landline, lord knows when the last time was, that is until this morning when I urgently needed to phone my wife. All calls kept going direct to messaging service, never rang at all at home and it thinks there's someone on the phone! When I got back, tried dialling our mobiles, and whilst you can hear it clicking, the mobile doesn't ring, though you can see the time going up.

Now I'll readily admit, that due to lack of use, I've almost forgotten how to use the landline, and we're both over 70, so before phoning Plusnet up and waiting around for ages, it may be our Vtech phone. Is it possible one of us has switched something off or on somewhere to cause this. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Also there was according to my wife a MAP group van in the road earlier, working os something, but new poles went up last year, roads dug up etc, for overhead cable broadband. Thanks for any suggestions.
