If you do not make any calls, then it remains on your account, but if you did make calls, it is the maximum that can be spent in a month. If calls costs go over this figure then your voice service would be restricted.

I have £55 credit on my home phone but I don't have a phone plugged in can I possibly claim the credit back or have it moved over and use it to pay the next few monthly bills?

Think of it as being similar to the credit LIMIT on your credit card.

It is there if you chose to use it, but it is not some form of free money.
