I have been using plusnet for Fibre and phone using my Gigaset Dect phone set up for years but now I have a problem with incomong calls. The other handsets dont let go - just keep ringing - when I pick up on one - so My calls time out as missed. I thought my old base station was going down as if I only connected one phone it worked but any two handsets just fought. So I bought a new Gigaset setup as the old one was 10 years old. But the problem persists. My only clue is that this happened around the time I renewed my contract and got upgraded to fibre plus. could this be the problem? or is there another reason?

I would suspect a phone line fault. Sounds as though the line is not going "off hook" (seizing the line).

Do you have a dial tone?

Can you dial out?

Is the line noisy?

Run the phone line fault test - link below.

Plusnet confirmed there is a fault on the line due for repair shortly - we will see!

That’s good news (logical cause).

When you said “The other handsets dont let go” did you mean other DECT hand sets or some other hand set not one of the DECT group? I had presumed the latter … which firmly points to a line fault rather than the DECT base station.

My old Dect phone base and one phone works fine - add another phone and i cannot pickup calls. My new dect phone base cannot even handle one handset. Unplug the dect and plug in an old pushbutton phone and it's happy. - We shall see when the "battery fault" reported at the exchange is sorted.

Thanks for your input - this problem ran just before a massive grid power cut which zapped my router but Plusnet got me a new one here in 36 hours - top marks guys!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

REN? I see nothing written on it. However the Plusnet Techies identified a Battery problem at the exchange which was rectified on the 27th and my DECT phone setup works fine now - Sorted - I did not in the event need a new setup but the quality of sound is better on the C530A setup than it was on the 10 year old setup.

Thanks for your interest - and full marks to Plusnet's support guys.

Identification of the REN value is discussed on page 134 of the manual.
