People returning calls made with my home phone but we don't use the landline to make any calls?

I don't get many calls but sometimes people have been really rude when I deny out landline has been used to make any calls. I am fed up apologising and having to explain to people that the ccall wasn't made from here. The only people who know this line are my family and even they don't ring on it. My husbands family are the only ones that ring my landline.!!! Any suggestions please, I tried ringing Plusnet but there was a long wait.

@Poshbird85 Welcome to the Community forum.

Unfortunately it sounds like a spammer is spoofing your phone number. I’m afraid that there’s nothing that you can do about this as the criminal spammer is probably overseas and can’t be practically traced.

I really recommend getting a phone with a built in call blocker, especially BT TrueCall phones. They won’t stop the spammer, these generally move on to a new number after a bit, but it will enable you to filter out the irritating call backs.

Hi there, I'm sorry to hear you're getting this issue, that must be really annoying and concerning for you.

Another possibility would be a crossed line fault, I've performed some tests on the line and it doesn't seem to be picking up on that being a cause.

As Baldrick1 suggests some call filtering could be a good idea, we have a free service for that called "Call Protect" which would be worth a go: https://www.plus.net/help/phone/stop-nuisance-calls/

When you asked for a screenshot I went back into my account and found the feature I needed and its awaiting activation. Thank you for the help it is much appreciated.

@Poshbird85 Unfortunately I don't believe call protect will help you at all. It can only block numbers that you know and don't want to let the call through. In your case you are getting calls from various number that believe they have received a call from you. You don't know what these numbers might be so you can't block them. The calls will probably go away when the scammer moves on to using different number.

I only get a couple of calls a year but one man was really angry. I think whoever phoned him had done so in the early hours. I don't think the calls will stop either but its just so annoying as I have had this number for years and its only happened since I changed to Plusnet!

I've placed an order to manually enable voicemail and call protect which are stuck in pending activation. Should be done within an hour for you. Let me know if you have any further issues.

I have just received another phone call from a lady in Rhyl who returned the call to my number. I don't want to get rid of my landline do you think it would help if I changed my number. I only keep the phone for incoming calls.

From my reading, check for yourself, select user guide, if you put all the numbers that are likely to ring you in the phone's VIP list then switch on 'Do Not Disturb' there is an option so that it will only ring if the caller's number is stored in the VIP list. Obviously you need Caller Display for it to work.

I already have that sort of phone and have put my numbers into VIP so I will see if it has worked. Thank you for that advice I will keep my fingers crossed.

Remember that you need to set it to Do Not Disturb with the option to allow VIP callers through set to ON
