Blocking spam calls

I have Call Protect and Call Barring set up but I still get some spam calls. How do I block these? 1572 says 'service cannot be connected'

Forget 'Call Protect', it will never catch them all. Buy a phone with a built in BT TrueCall call guardian feature. These work in a totally different way by stopping automatic call diallers getting through. I have not received an unwanted call for years.

Thanks but we rarely use the home phone, so it's not worth it. I hoped there was an easy way to block nuisance callers.

If you rarely use the phone and don't want to spend money on a call-blocking device, the easiest way to stop all those unwanted calls is to unplug your phone.

Which would suggest that Call Protect is not actually in operation.
