Called by my own number !

Hi, My caller id showed my own number on my last call, picked up and an automated voice said to access my voice mail press 1, as this all seemed strange I did not, anybody cast any light on this, seems a possible scam.

Update - Got a voicemail message some time later on my mobile so now not sure if this is actually a Plusnet feature, but if so not a good one, why use my own number to call me .... gives impression of a scam.

Just for some clarification here - did you see this call by your own number on your Landline or Plusnet Mobile?

Hi @sheffpete, it does sound like an odd one.

Testing the line isn't flagging up any problems, but that's not to say there is 100% not a problem.

It's possible that this may have been a scam or potentially some sort of number spoofing as part of a scam.

Could you let us know if you continue to experience this.

Is this standard Voicemail or Voicemail Extra?

A while back when I had BT's Call Minder (equivalent to Plusnet's Voicemail Extra) it called me with my own ID if a message was left while the line was engaged.

Thanks for the replies, as far as i know its standard voicemail, and yes there was a message left.

I have just never known a voicemail service calling back using my own number, if thats what Plusnet intend, it seems a confusing way of alerting.

IIRC, this can happen if a SMS is sent to the landline which is "converted" to a voice message.

Thanks for the explanation, but with the number of spam warnings we get, its surely confusing to call using the persons own landline number, couldnt they display voicemail or similar ?

You would think something better could be sent, perhaps a 157x number. However, as they have messed up their "call guardian" system, perhaps not!*

* I use VoIP for some calls and, recently, they started being categorised as "international" by BT, which means people don't answer or have them automatically blocked, though the correct number is appended!
