It's always worth having a spare WIRED handset for testing purposes - it's not as if they cost much: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5526527.htm

Our phone has started to display an error on the handset which says "please check the line cord". I have tried unplugging everything and plugging it all back in but the error persists. Everything was fine until the other day and we had not moved anything around or anything like that.
I don't have access to another handset to be able to check if that is the issue.
Any ideas?

I've just been through a line test on the off-chance that was causing the issues, and it's come back as:
Test Result: Fail - Fault located at exchange (Openreach side of MDF)
Description: FAULT - Earth Contact
So I'm going to raise that to Openreach for you and will add a ticket to your account with the detail.

Well the obvious one is to get access to another phone

Why spend money doing that when I can post here? My phone was working fine a few days ago and it has just been sitting in it's stand since then.
And looking at the reply from Chris, it seems like it was best that I didn't.
indeed
dick:quote
