Hi everyone,

I’ve just joined Plusnet Full Fibre 300 and I’m planning to use my own router setup instead of the Plusnet Hub.

My current setup is:

Openreach ONT → TP-Link Deco mesh system → devices

I was previously with BT and had the Deco connected directly to the ONT using PPPoE, and everything worked fine.

I understand Plusnet also uses PPPoE, but I’m just looking for confirmation from anyone already using their own router/mesh setup with Plusnet FTTP.

Could anyone confirm:

* The correct PPPoE settings
* Whether VLAN 101 is needed
* What the Plusnet broadband username/password normally looks like when using your own router
* If there’s anything specific I need to do on Deco systems

Also if anyone has experience using Plusnet with streaming devices like Fire Stick over Ethernet, I’d appreciate any tips.

Thanks

The correct PPPoE settings

Username is

youraccountnameatthemembercentre@plusdsl.net

(to state the obvious it's the account name you use to log in not what I've written above!)

Password is

the password you use for the member centre

MTU

1492

I can't immediately think of what else the Deco might want.

Whether VLAN 101 is needed

No

What the Plusnet broadband username/password normally looks like when using your own router

See above

If there’s anything specific I need to do on Deco systems

I don't have a Deco so I can't give an opinion on this.

If you have it working with BT I think the only thing you should need to change is the Username and Password (BT domestic service is a generic username and password whereas Plusnet is account specific).

With the username and password it should "just work".

On my TP-Link router the MTU setting is 1480, you might not see any noticeable difference if you change it to 1492, I didn't.

Worth noting much of the network infrastructure is shared between the BT group comms providers (EE, BT and plusnet), so all is required is to change the Internet (broadband) username and password pair, nothing else should need to be looked at.

The router I use has a test function for MTU and that suggested 1492 as the correct value.

It seems to work OK!
