Getting Black Friday deal

I placed an order a while ago but it is due to go live on Friday. The current black Friday deal is £4 cheaper / month (so £96 over 2 years). How can I get them to switch me to the current deal

I have a feeling that if you do that you will be hit with massive cancellation fees, but you could always contact Plusnet and see what they say.

You have 14 days from the date that you signed up for your new service to let us know that you'd like to cancel.

Bit of a moan, but I rang up to see if I could get a bit of a better deal, explaining that new customers on the black Friday deal pay £23 plus £50 reward card for the same package I am on, response was tough but that's how the cookie crumbles.

..........so much for loyal customers, be checking out my options when my contracts up.

@2u2me Once you have agreed a contract, you have agreed a contract. However, when any of mine (broadband/power/insurance/w.h.y.) are due for renewal, I check around for best deals, take notes, then ask my current provider what they can do.

So far this year, I have reduced my home insurance premium (for exactly the same benefits) and got a new 18-month broadband deal for just £1.00/mo. more.

It used to be the case that you could cancel up to 14 days after installation but ofcom have quietly rolled back to 14 days after contracting. Maybe this is a Brexit freedom!

It has been 14 days after agreeing a contract, or when the service goes live, whichever is the soonest, for as long as I can remember - broadband has never been a 'try it before you buy it' product.

I've definitely cancelled a now broadband within 14 days of activation (this was about 5 years ago)

Well, that must have been a 'NOW' peculiarity, because I've never had that option with any of the ISP's I've been with, and not seen it on any of the ones where I have assisted.

I've just found it in both Vodafone contract from 2022 and virgin from 2023. Virgin language is "Your right to cancel
If you wish to cancel your Virgin Media services you have FOURTEEN days from the later of: (i) the day after the delivery of the
equipment; (ii) the service start date; or (iii) the day you receive your contract. By approving your order, you are also agreeing to your
services starting as soon as possible. If you cancel during your 14 day cooling off period you acknowledge that you will have to pay for
the supply of services that you receive. Outside of your cooling off period, if you want us to stop providing the services you will need to
give us at least 30 days’ notice as set out in Section N (or Section O if you are an Oomph customer) of the terms and conditions."

The statutory 14 days relates to distance selling regulations and starts from the day after you agree the contract.

Some suppliers do put themselves at a suck it and ditch it risk - risk, because all of their costs are front loaded, which gets covered by others paying more for those who suck and run.

Deals change all of the time ... I guess that if the price went up between you agreeing the contact and the service starting ... you would be equally as willing to pay the increase as you expect to get the currently lower promotional price ... Yes?

Actually @Townman I placed the order in advance of Black Friday (deliberately choosing an installation date on Black Friday) on the basis that I thought (it turns out mistakenly) that I would be protected if a lower Black Friday price were offered.

You are correct that some suppliers allow 14 day cancellation from installation. I think most broadband providers that I have used previously do. I've checked a few legacy agreements and I see Virgin & Vodafone allowed 14 day cancellation from installation when I last used them.

I didn't read the terms and conditions properly in this case (my prior experience led me to misunderstand my legal rights).

I will be more careful next time.

Hi John.

I joined Plusnet at the end of last month and my welcoming email said (in "The legal bit") that I had 14 days from joining to cancel my services but also said this: "If you're switching to Plusnet from another provider you have up to the point we transfer your services, or 14 days from tomorrow (whichever is latest), to cancel your order".

I may be misunderstanding something but that sounds like the opposite of what you're saying. Purely academic anyway, because I don't think this would help the original poster and I have no desire to cancel my own services.
