My email says my broadband will be activated on 18th September but when I log into my account the date is 19th September

That actually means 'by 00:00 19th September' which effectively means any time on the 18th!

Confusing isnt it...

Does it actually say midnight on 19th September?

Most folks think "midnight" is the end of the day, whereas in fact, it is the very start of the day - 00:00:00
