I have a house but i have my router in my bedroom as i game, and everything there and all is Ethernet connections.
I don’t want WiFi connection to game.
I have a phone line socket upstairs that was built in. So When i get full will it be put upstairs if i want it installed there? I am not getting it to be used downstairs and have to use WiFi to all my gaming systems and computers. My house is new build with thick sound proof walls. So signal is not strong for WiFi as it is. So it really kills WiFi these houses

@Ukstevo7

What does the narrative say about the FF install in the following

https://www.broadbandchecker.btwholesale.com/#/ADSL

If you are currently served by an overhead cable then there's a chance you might get the ONT upstairs. It also depends on where the cable from the pole reaches your house. If it's the front and you want it at the back then you may well be out of luck.

If you are served by an underground connection then the area where the copper cable comes in is your starting point. In this case you are unlikely to get an upstairs install as the installer may not be qualified or have the equipment to work at height.

It usually comes down to the engineer on the day as to what's possible and what's not.

All is not lost if the ONT is downstairs though it might cost you a few quid. The router is connected by an ethernet cable so you could get someone in to run ethernet cable externally to your desired location. Or do it your self if you like DIY.

It’s underground cable. It’s a new build area so no over head lines at all. Plus in the country side.

I have no idea where that is located, there is no plugs near the front door or hall exterior, the other room is the kitchen, then the large living room with a phone line socket but no plugs near. Above that room is where all my gaming systems are and the router is atm. There was a phone line socket there and next to that there is 2 wall plugs. My router is about 3 meters from that wall via the phone line extension.

This bedroom that the sockets are both on is an external wall that can be reached via my garden.

But my room from the front door would be at least 25 meters away if had to run a Ethernet. So having it put in the room everything is would be best. Also it’s middle of the house so best for WiFi for the whole house also.

What does it say about the FTTP install in the Checker I mentioned earlier?

Have a look at the cupboard under the stairs - any telecom equipment / wall sockets?

Have a walk outside and see if you can figure where the undergound chamber that serves your house is situated.

Speak to your neighbours to see if anyone knows where the cable comes in.

At the end of the day it still comes down to the installer on the day what they're happy / allowed to do.. You just don't know.

I found outside the house at the front outside the kitchen a bt small box. There is then I think a ground phone socket in the living room ground floor about 10m away from the box but with no plugs near and behind a huge corner sofa. Then literally right above that is the bedroom with a phone line socket above same place but this is where I would like it and there is also 2 plugs next to this one.

I checked that but I don’t know what it is I’m looking for to message back.

It says available stage 1? Does this sound like right thing u asking

If it's a new build, it's an underground feed and it's a 1 stage install with no mention of digging then this is all pointing to there being a ready installed underground duct.

I would suspect that this emerges in this box outside the kitchen door. If so, then this is where the fibre will emerge. From here, where the CSP and ONT are located depends on where you can persuade the installer to route it. Personally I would be surprised if that's above ground level, but with sufficient tea and choccy biscuits you never know!

As @Baldrick1 states it appears you have found the incoming copper cable and this is the starting point for fibre.

On the Checker there should be a sentance below the results window referring to the FTTP installl - what does this say?

The living room socket is probably the Master Socket with any others being extensions. This would be the default location for the ONT but there is always a certain leeway as to where it goes. You talk to the installer on the day. If they don't have ladders with them then you won't get the ONT upstairs but you don't know for sure until you ask.

Not the end of the world but it may cost you a bit of money unless you're into DIY. You could get someone in the run an external ethernet cable from downstairs straight up the wall to your desired location. The router can then go at either end depending on your preference.

Other option is that the extension socket in your office was not fixed to the wall during construction and you could use the cable as a drawrope to pull a ethernet cable. It will become obsolete once FTTP is installed.

I spoke to plus net today and they said that that will install any location as long as it’s an external wall.
My brother had his done about a year ago and they did put his in his room. His was line in to the loft via overhead line. But he said they asked where he wanted it. So it’s confusing that not knowing what will happen. I know they can. But it’s will they. And having to wait until they turn up to ask is kinda annoying. Be nice to get checked first before they come.

@Ukstevo7

A pre-install visit takes time and therefore costs money. It would also delay the install. The majority of users probably don't need a visit, especially if they had to take time off to be at time to talk about the install.

I wouldn't trust what PN said. While engineers are usually happy to try and work with the occupier of a property they are bound by certain constraints.

For example, while they will work in a loft it needs to be floored. have easy access and space (height) to work.

Anyway, back to business. You keep talking about "plugs" - I'm not certain what you mean by this. Can you post a picture of one. To add it inline clcik on the icon that looks like this or click on the attachment paperclip at the foot. Can you also post a pricture of the box outside where you think the copper cable comes in.

In very general terms the fibre will be pulled though the existing duct to the property. From what you say I suspect they would then take it externally along the front of the house to the living room. From this point, you want them to go up to the first floor.

Do you have a ladder or a set of steps that can be converted into a ladder. Given they drill inside out all that would be required outside is for someone to go up the ladder (not looking at anyone!!!), feed the cable through and then add sealant. An installer might well be amenable to this. Still leaves the question of the CSP.

Ask for an internal one upstairs. If they say they don't do it show them these pictures (from recent installs).

Just be nice to the installer and ask.

I mean plug sockets for the power. There is 2 right next to the upstairs phone line. Downstairs there is none on that whole area.
I tried to add pics but it has no option to add. Just says file attachment limits.

I guess, as mentioned by stevo7 that the best solution to a 'downstairs' ONT to upstairs is indeed an inside or outside routed ethernet cable connecting the ONT to the router. I've done that, works a peach.

I thought you meant power sockets - just wanted to check.

To add an image inline click on the reply button and then, where required, click on the icon that looks like

When added hit enter to move to a new line if desired. To add an attachment use the paperclip below the reply box - don't know about file sizes though.

You just have to wait and see what happens of the day of install. Do let us know the outcome.

@Ukstevo7 wrote:
I mean plug sockets for the power.

Ok so the diplomatic version of the conversation should go ...

'Yes I know you really hoped to put it stright through the living room wall, but sorry there's no power anywhere near that. The best I can offer you is to put the CSP there and run up the wall and into the 'spare room' (aka Gaming zone) which has lots of mains sockets. I have cleared it for you

By the way how many choccy digestives for you, 5 sugars or 6 in the tea ?"

Worst case as noted you will have to do the sealant and upper cable clips.

They will need a decent bit of space around the external wall to work fitting the ONT. The (default) ONT power supply only has a 1m lead.

Around here there's some overhead feeds, dropped down to the ground for the CSP then the 'house' fibre is run back up and around the back of the house at high level. However those would all have had 'work at height' folks to install it due to the overhead feed.

A late thought - can you post an image of the external box which you think is the incoming copper cable.. Show the cable coming out of the ground.
