Thanks - it's overhead, so that means it would have to go down to go up again.

Ok, so we are probably going to move to Plusnet - we are "upgrading" to a full fibre connection and with this comes the obligatory extra boxes on the outside wall.

Our line currently goes into the house, in the middle, straight into the "box" room, but I don't want a grey box on the front of the house, especially at that height.

Ideally, I need the entry point moving to the corner of the house like others in our row, then they can either put the box on the outside, on the side of the house there, or even do it all inside.

My current master socket is currently easily accessible, with power if required, under the floorboards in that room.

We are lucky enough to have suspended floors, so the DSL and Cat5e cables run under the floorboards and down to the under stairs cupboard where my router, switch etc reside.

After all that - basically the question is - will they be able to move the entry point? or will I have to approach Openreach directly?

The CSP (grey box) would be located at ground level - the installers cannot splice at height. Are you currently served by an overhead or underground feed?

The CSP can be installed internally, but it is not normal, and would depend on a number of factors. Basically, you will have to discuss with the installer on the day what is desirable as against what is practical.

If the 'grey box' has not already been installed, there is some flexibility when it is installed.
It comes down to the engineer that installs it on the day.
Plenty of tea, biscuits and sometimes pre drilled holes and any trunking, boards lifted etc also helps.

You might have difficulty persuading the installer to run fibre under your floorboards.

It it was me, I would ask for the fibre to enter your property within a metre of a power socket on an outside wall. Have the ONT installed at this location. You can have up to 100m of CAT5e, or better, Ethernet cable between the ONT and the router. You could install an Ethernet cable between the ONT location, under the floorboards yourself, to where you wish to locate your Router.

I have about 30m of Cat 6 cable between my chosen ONT location and Router. I installed and tested this ready before fibre was installed.

@Progress

There is some deabte as to wether it's sensible to run fibre optic cable round the corners of a property - potential wear and tear issues and far more difficult to repair.

If it's on the same wall as where your current copper cable arrives at the premise then it should be possible to locate the external Customer Splice Point (CSP) at a desired location. The fibre cable usually comes in at this point but there is a bit of flexibility.

As you have the ability to easily run internal ethernet cable the location of the ONT is not quite so important as might otherwise have been the case.

Unfortunately you just don't know until the day if install when you speak to the engineer. Generally speaking they will work with you if it's possible.

Thanks, I have power under the floor from a previous install, less than 1.5m away - If they go through the wall at that top point, they will come level with my master socket a double power socket, plus a Cat5e cable under the floor.

The good thing about an overhead supply is you get an engineer qualified to work at heights with the right equipment.

Yes, it does have to come down to ground level for the splicing but it can then go back up the wall to an entry point. It may be even be possible for the cable to come in throught the original copper cable entry point - it just depends.

I would ask for the original copper cable to be removed anyway.
