Thanks for the replies.

It's all FTTC both Sky and Plusnet.

I was struggling to come up with a scenario in which the letter would make sense. Plusnet can't supply broadband without taking over the line and after taking it over Sky can't cancel it.

Digging around in the various emails there is one from Sky that specifically says that Sky Talk (the phone service) will end on the switchover date. Despite the warning in the letter there is no indication of it continuing for another 30 days. Which is a little bit more reassuring.

I am in the process of switching from Sky to Plusnet for broadband. The landline phone plugs into the back of the Sky router so presumably it is digital. Plusnet is now broadband only, no landline.

This isn't a problem since we haven't made an outgoing call on the landline for three years and only a handful of people use it to call us. Sky however has sent a letter saying if I don't transfer the phone to a new provider within 30 days of switching the line will be cancelled and "your Broadband service with your new provider will also cease."

Any idea what is going on here. It implies I will only get Plusnet for 30 days then be left with a dead line for the rest of the two year contract?

@ForAllTheFish That sounds like typical SKY cow-muck. If you are ordering a service from Plusner (which, FTTC or FTTP?), it is true that if you don't arrange a VoIP service with another provider, you will lose the number, but your broadband will continue.

John's right, its rubbish!. I suspect the letter is an old template based around the old situation of analogue phone service and broadband. In that situation, if just broadband was transferred to another supplier, then Sky would (after 30 days?) cease the landline, which would of course cease any broadband that was now using the landline. That situation doesnt exist anymore, the new suppliers broadband is not associated with the landline number and furthermore the Sky phone service is not associated with a physical line.
