I didn’t incur any early termination fees with BT as the contract I had stated this, so no worries there at all. I’m glad I didn’t have to wait until the BT contract was up otherwise.

The PN contract just switched over today to the cheaper version - no interruption to the service or mention of any termination charges etc from PN. Looking good…

Thanks for your advice!

Hi folks,

Today was activation and install day for FTTP - loving the speed! However our previous FTTC service with BT is still active. I was under the impression that Plusnet would handle the cease on the old line. I haven’t heard anything from BT about the contract ending etc.

Will Plusnet be instructing them to cancel the service or should I reach out to BT myself? Just wondering what other’s experiences have been with this kind of thing.

Thanks!

Hi Neil,

A warm welcome to the forums and Plusnet.

When you ordered FTTP from Plusnet as a new user, did you choose to keep your existing telephone number? If yes, then Plusnet will leave you to close down the existing FTTC service. If Plusnet had done that, you would have lost your phone line / number.

Thank you! Called BT and gave notice so the old service will go in 30 days time.

I also noticed that in the Offers & Upgrades section I could recontract already and pay £36.99 a month for the 500mbit FTTP service I just got (it was £38.99 when I signed up a couple of weeks ago). A bit weird and maybe related to the Black Friday deals perhaps…

Is that terminating just FTTC whilst keeping the phone service?

You might try asking BT to terminate the FTTC immediately without penalty as you have migrated to Plusnet FTTP. Plusnet would do the same the other way around.

That will be a black Friday deal - would be interesting to see if you could get that without paying ETCs on your existing contract.
