I accept this isn’t typical domestic use. For normal domestic use the benefits are marginal. However, if people feel they need / want something and it’s available in market then why not? Certainly my work relies on people wanting the new thing.

@poweredbyveg I presume by Public release you mean available to all Plusnet customers, did you not see my reply to your similar question at the end of this thread?

https://community.plus.net/t5/Everything-else/Static-IP-addresses-no-longer-available/m-p/2007762#M38350

The current trial is specifically for users who already have static IP addresses on the 'high touch network'.

The folk that don't have a static address are not on that network and will not need to have one.

Only Plusnet will know when they are able to introduce IPv6 on the dynamic address network and a limited trial will probably be announced at some point.

Apologies for delayed reply on this.

We have 2 separate networks, one we refer to as low touch which is for dynamic IPs and high touch which is mostly static IP addresses and a few other reasons. I'd originally expected that low touch was going to be ready to trial IPv6 on first but we've had a few delays, it isn't far off but there's still work to do. Hopefully I'll have an update in a few weeks time.

Hi Stuart,

My test line in Ipswich is up and running on low touch on IPv6 and it's all fully working. I'm hoping to get my home line and 1 or 2 of our Sheffield office test lines on IPv6 in the next few weeks. Many many more things after that to do before we can expand but will update when we can.

Just joined, but instead of 24 months, signed up for 12 months. If ipv6 isn't launched in that time, then I'd be off as can't wait out 2 years for something that should have already been done. About time Ofcom gave a ruling on this to all ISP's, as ipv6 been around a long time now.

Hopefully this will get done within my 12 months, but at least I wont be in it for 24 months if not....

I'm in similar situation with current contract, although I've been with PlusNet for 16 years. When my renewal came up in June this year I opted for a 12 month contract to de-risk if IPv6 didn't happen. There seems confidence around IPv6 delivery, but I can't wait much longer and will soon be setting up a new provider ahead of June. I've been very pleased with PlusNET, and still do recommend them to people.

In the real world, what does the absence of IPv6 actually stop you doing?

What services HAVE gone IPv6 only? What services have declared a real intent to go IPv6 only immediately? Sure there's fears spreading around that some might, but what everyday service has?

Yes, the internet is littered with may's, might's and if's ... but it is (in a domestic setting) mostly FUD.

That’s the most objective reason I’ve seen articulated, though that falls into the grey area of WFH on a budget residential service. At the moment it’s still coming. I’ve fallen off the trial for the moment due to something I poked on my account elsewhere. TBH I cannot operationally discern any issue … beyond the router’s DHCP still issues a IPv6 DNS resolver … which nslookup insists on using … which is not contactable.
