Wi-fi problems

"I am on a wired CAT5 connection and my FTTP broadband is fully operational. However, the Hub Two hardware is defective. The wireless radio functions perfectly when security is set to 'None', but the moment any form of WPA security is enabled, the encryption engine fails entirely. Six separate wireless devices across Android, iOS, and FireOS all return an immediate 'Authentication issue'. I have already performed a 20-second pinhole factory reset, isolated the channels, and verified the router is in Wireless Mode 3.

Any other sugfgestions?

@BigDobber welcome to the forum.

For an effective factory reset the pin needs to be held in until the light goes out and returns to green.

The default is Mode 1.

Maybe try a basic passkey, what was your previous router, it might be possible use that.

No - it works fine with no password, I have done a full reset on the hub, tried the supplied credentials and then changed them to my own - I always get authentication errors

Also my old hub was a BT which will not connect to plusnet

Believe that if you disconnect the BT router from the Internet you can enter your PN credentials in the username and password section. Save them, the connect the router to the Internet

I tried that - it spat back, I may have to try to get it to work as a wi-fi hotspot connected with cat 5

Do you have an option to enable WPA2-PSK only & if it is a choice use AES encryption ?
i.e. have WPA-PSK aka WPA1-PSK disabled

Using the older WPA-PSK mode on its own, or combined with WPA2-PSK is rejected by Apple kit and other current devices.

In the first post it is mentioned the client devices are configured to connect with Wi-Fi Encryption disabled.

I understood that if Encryption is later enabled on the Hub or AP, the client devices Wi-Fi connections would
need to be re-created for the correct encryption type.

Have you tried forgetting the network and creating a new connection?

With the default Wireless settings; the pull out card on the Hub has a QR code, try using that or the WPS button.

Maybe try switching off 5GHz band to see if that helps.

It was all working at 9am with my old BT Home Hub 2, AS expected, the connection dropped, I swapped in my new PlusNet HGub2, within 30 minutes, the new connection was live, ,y wired network sprang to life, and all was well.

When I returned home at 7pm, I tried to setup my wi-fi. I changed the SSID on the hub to my previous SSID, and changed the password to match. EVERY device showed authentication errors of some sort

They are

Google Pixel 8

Motorola G22

Ipad Air

Amazon Kindle (x2)

Apple TV

Raspberry Pi (x2)

Amazon FireStick HD

I spent two hours trying every combination available on the hub - the only thing that was successful was disabling encryption

Yes - I even did a factory reset on the hub

Also WPS fails on the Firestick, I haven't tried it on other devices,but I am not optimistic.

We encountered a similar situation where a previous SSID / Password could not be re-used on a replacement Hub/Router because the replacement Hub/Router deemed the old Password to be too short, or not complex enough.

That has been tried too - the one supplied by PlusNet as a default does not work.....

Setting up my old BT hub as a Wireless Access Point solves the problem - a new hub is being desptached on Monday/
