Keep my existing router

I’m thinking of changing existing supplier (Utility Warehouse) to Plusnet full fibre service. I’d rather continue using my existing SSE router to avoid having to re-pair all the devices in the house. Is this possible???

Alternative is to change SSID and wifi password of new router to same as your existing one.

Without knowing more about the router it’s impossible to say. However an alternative option is to simply log in to the Plusnet advanced settings/wireless page and change the hub SSID and password to match those which you are currently using.

or Plan B : Set any new router to offer the same SSID & Password as the old router, job done all reconnected.

Note:

It is not possible to split the WiFi bands SSID so 2.4 and 5 GHz share the same name.

@SamMurray Is your SSE locked? Many ISP supplied routers are, and will not work on other suppliers.

Don’t know. It is the original router provided by SSE when I originally had their service installed in 2018. Since then, the service has changed hands more often than I can remember.

In that case it doesn't appear to be locked, but it is a bit long in the tooth. I would substitute the PN hub, and do as @njay says in his 'fix' post.

If it's a Technicolor TG589vac that SSE used back then it looks pretty capable. 😀 @SamMurray can you confirm what it actually is?

I have 2 of those now working as wireless repeaters. they were unlocked and I used them on PN before the move to fibre. Not sure if they are FTTP capable.
