Here is an example.

Local WiFi to my location.

Vodafone4EAFE0_extra, the wifi is setup to use to have a 40 MHz channel width so is overlapping both Channel 1 and 6

VodafoneD with a 20 MHz channel overlapping 1 and 6.

Someone near me is also with plusnet.

WhereI live, the wifi chanels 1, 6 and 11 are totally overloaded so I need to set the channel to e.g. 4, which is very quiet.

On the hub 2 only channels 1, 6 or 11 are available, and "smart" is useless.

Any ideas how to set the channel to something suitable? I could do this on all the routers I've ever had, INCLUDING the Hub 1.

Channels 1,6 & 11 are the only non-overlapping channels

While choosing channels 1, 6, or 11 will mean you have to share the channels with other networks (co-channel interference), it's a much better choice than dealing with adjacent-channel interference that occurs with all the other channels.

Use a wireless analyser and choose whichever of 1,6 & 11 has adjacent networks with the lowest signal strength. Check both where the router and your client device are located.

Channels 1,6 & 11 are the only non-overlapping channels

To add, a 2.4GHz WiFi channel has a bandwidth of 20 MHz, by using 1, 6 and 11 only there is no overlap.

If you're using channel 4 you overlap both Channel 1 and 6 causing co-channel interference on both.

At first glance it is easy to imagine why using 2.4GHz on channel 4 or 8 etc is tempting, but please don't !

Have a look at the link below to see why advice to only use channels 1 and 6 and 11 at 20MHz are best practice for 2.4GHz.

https://www.oscium.com/training/why-channels-1-6-11/
