Reset Plusnet Modem/Router

I understand that the Plusnet modem doesn't clear its cache on a reboot which is causing me massive problems. It currently has in its cache two PCs on my network with different names but the same IP address and it is causing mayhem on my network.

If I do a full reset with a paper clip I understand it will revert to its original name/password. If I do that will it clear its cache?

It's astonishing this is the only way to clear the cache, would I be better off to buy my own router and use that? If so any recommendations for something decent with built in WiFi?

Same names should be ok for DHCP provided the two PCs have different MACs

Change the IP on one of the PCs to a static IP that does not clash.

The MAC address for each network device should be unique, are you sure one of the PC's is not setup for a static IP Address in network properties?

If Windows 10 or 11 using a windows terminal with command ipconfig -all will provide the answer for the MAC address and DHCP server setting.

Look for lines

Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : <- this is the MAC address

DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes or No <- No would indicate a static IP address is set.

DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : <- This will be the IP Address of the Hub two if the above is Yes

Edit: Using the pinhole on the Hub will reset the Hub to factory settings, but if a Static IP address has been set on a PC then the issue will still be there.

Another cause of duplicate IPs is a situation where there are multiple DHCP servers on the same LAN.

This can be the case if there is the ISP Hub/Router with DHCP and say a second Wi-Fi Router has been installed perhaps to extend Wi-Fi coverage or add more network sockets and this second server inadvertently has DHCP enabled.

One DHCP server is good, two ( or more ) are not as both could give out 192.168.1.10 and they would not be aware the other has also done the same.
