Plusnet Hub Two has not been updated for almost 3 years

See photo of my Plusnet Hub Two Manager. Is it up to date?

I saw an article in my Computer Active magazine that states “Last year, the Governments Telecoms Security Act (www.snipca.com/58627) was updated…..It now requires all UK internet providers to identify and reduce the risks of ‘security compromises’……if your router no longer receives security and software updates your ISP must notify you by email or letter…”

If the article is correct, then it seems that the Hub Two router needs updating after nearly 3 years.

Also, I haven’t received anything from Plusnet to explain my options.

Does anyone know if Plusnet are in the process of upgrading the router firmware or taking other action to comply with the updated Telecoms Security Act?

@Madeleyite Unfortunately, due to anothr bit of ill thought out government legislation, all inline images have to be 'approved' before us mere mortals can see them.

What firmware version do you have? If it is Hub 2: 0.10.00.04201-PN then that is the latest. If there were security concerns around that version, then updates would be issued.

EDIT: Image released, and you are on the current firmware.

Thanks for confirming it is up to date.

Almost 3 years since the last firmware upgrade is a long time though.

I suppose Plusnet are monitoring the router security situation in order to comply with the Act.

There’s a presumption here that there is a risk which needs to be fixed. If it ain’t broken, it does not need fixing. I recall a scare story akin to that described above a few years ago related to external third party attack risks … which the Plus Net Hub Two router was deemed to be invulnerable to.

Security is an area that poorly informed media do get into a disproportionate tiz over. Just because security could be applied, does not mean it is really needed or has merit. For example imposing https on websites which collect no data and / or insisting on the same for serving images.

I have had my Fritz!Box router for five years, and although they have updated it three times in that period, none of those updates have been for 'security' reasons - to my knowledge, anyway.

I checked on the following website and the Plusnet Hub Two has no known vulnerabilities so that's good. Problem solved.
