Hi All,

Looking for some Advice, Setting up an OpenWRT Router on my Plusnet FTTP Connection

I believe i have everything setup correctly but cannot connect to the WAN

Config:

==================================

config device
option name 'eth0.101'
option type '8021q'
option ifname 'eth0'
option vid '101'

config interface 'wan'
option device 'eth0.101'
option proto 'pppoe'
option username '[REDACTED]@plusdsl.net'
option password '[REDACTED]'
option ipv6 '0'
option mtu '1492'

config device
option name 'eth0'

==================================

PPPoE never tries to authenticate, I get the following in logread

==================================

Mon Jun 15 06:34:10 2026 daemon.info pppd[31297]: Exit.
Mon Jun 15 06:34:10 2026 daemon.notice netifd: Interface 'wan' is now down
Mon Jun 15 06:34:10 2026 daemon.notice netifd: Interface 'wan' is setting up now
Mon Jun 15 06:34:10 2026 daemon.info pppd[31400]: Plugin pppoe.so loaded.
Mon Jun 15 06:34:10 2026 daemon.info pppd[31400]: PPPoE plugin from pppd 2.4.9
Mon Jun 15 06:34:10 2026 daemon.notice pppd[31400]: pppd 2.4.9 started by root, uid 0
Mon Jun 15 06:34:25 2026 daemon.warn pppd[31400]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets
Mon Jun 15 06:34:25 2026 daemon.err pppd[31400]: Unable to complete PPPoE Discovery
Mon Jun 15 06:34:25 2026 daemon.info pppd[31400]: Exit.

==================================

We tried all sorts, including trying the wrong username/password then reverting it. Plusnet support said they couldnt help me and to reach out in the forums but all the research I did on PADO packets points to the line needs to be re-provisioned, however my old TPLink still works even after changing the PPPoE Password

Anyone else come across this and have a solution?

Many Thanks

Many thanks

Properly confused as to why PlusNet documentation specifically says Vlan 101 tagged for FTTP

Just happy were up and running again

Ah! the when is 'Fibre not fibre ' question

https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/broadband-connection-settings/

You should looking at the ' what settings ... when connected to a BT modem' ( the ONT is a fibre modem )

The 'what settings should I use for fibre' are really for a VDSL modem/router ( fibre to the cabinet )
