Better WiFi signal needed

Hi, we have plusnet full fibre, & live in a not particularly big house, my son is finding that upstairs in his room, the signal is not strong enough to support cloud streaming & its annoyingly laggy.

How can we fix this please, a better router or an access point in his room?

Any advice appreciated, thank you.

Hard wired from the device to the router is always best. If it is a wireless device, hard wired to an access point in their room.

Is there any chance of running ethernet cable upstairs - either internally or externally?

Yes there is an Ethernet cable running up to the room already, which is plugged in to PlayStation, maybe better off plugged in to an access point in his room ?

Thank you, I took a look at the link you sent but I must say it was past my levels of comprehension! There is already an Ethernet cable from the router downstairs up to my son’s bedroom,& he plugs that in to his gaming consoles.

The console he’s having trouble streaming from though is a handheld device with no point to attach an Ethernet cable to, so maybe the Ethernet cable would be better plugged in to an access point in his room ?

Our house isn’t big & the router is directly at the bottom of the stairs, his bedroom is directly at the top of the stairs, so maybe we just have a weak connection or need a different package?

If you have an old router these can sometimes be provisioned as a WAP.

Failing that, you do get purpose built WAP's, some of which will have a spare ethernet port. One of these would do fine, as you would still be able to plug in the PlayStation to ethernet with a WAP for the WiFi.
