Assuming your Virgin connection is via coax cable, which moving from NTLworld suggests, then PlusNet will be installing a totally separate connection with different technology. There is probably no "switchover" process in this case.

So firstly you need to clarify what technology Virgin is using and secondly what exact PlusNet product you have ordered.

Two service providers in same house possible?

Ok so I recently decided to switch from Virgin to Plusnet, as Virgin has started throttling my connection to try and make me upgrade from £57 pm to £70 pm (via a new router).

I have been with Virgin over 20 years (they took over my NTLworld broadband), so I'm not ready to just switch from one to the other. It will take a long time to migrate all my email addresses on all websites.

I spoke with Copilot ai, and was told that Virgin and Plusnet use different cables, so I can keep my Virgin running for a couple of months after the switchover date. Perfect, as that will give me time to sort all my emails.

However.. on purchasing the Plusnet package, I was hit with this message:

Virgin or cable?

Don't forget if you're with a cable provider like Virgin or another provider not using the Openreach network you’ll need to let them know you’re switching to us.

Is this going to be a problem. Am I going to have an engineer turn up and not be able to switch me because I'm still with Virgin?
Or are they are just warning me that my Virgin connection won't be cancelled when they go live?

Virgin has started throttling my connection : I'd verify that with :

https://www.samknows.com/realspeed/

Be sure to run the Full Test.

You can have dual connections, VM may use COAX or RFoG or XGS-PON.

Whatever Plusnet use will be a different and additional FTTP connection to your home.

You can manually cancel the VM service a month or two after PN goes live.

If adding another broadband service to your current virgin set up it's essential that this is ordered as a NEW service.
Don't mention any existing services during the sign up process otherwise the OTS switching process will kick in and that will terminate your Virgin services.
Hth
