Hello

I wanted a new router to play with VLAN's.

I have Plusnet VDSL and Plusnet says i need use PPPoA for the login to Plusnet.

But my new router only has a PPPoE option for logging onto Plusnet.

So then I have to use the hub2 in normal mode with the wifi off an connect plug into the WAN port on the new router so as not mess up the DHCP, is this right?

For VDSL you would use the settings under the 'What settings should I use for Fibre Broadband?' section, not the standard broadband/ADSL section.

If your new router does not have an integrated VDSL modem then you should configure the Hub Two to use bridge mode, connect the RJ-11 port of the Hub Two to your telephone socket, and then run an Ethernet cable between the WAN port of your third party router and one of the first 3 LAN ports on the Hub Two.

The third party router would need configuring with your Plusnet PPP username/password.

@lostintek Whoever told you Plusnet require PPPoA login for VDSL is totally wrong. With PPPoA the A stands for ATM network (Asynchronous Transfer Mode). VDSL is not ATM. PPPoA was used on some ADSL services but in most cases PPPoE could also be used

So run the Hub2 in bridge mode and use a PPPoE connection on the router to login. Connect one of the LAN ports on the hub to the router WAN port.

To be clear, if you intend to use the Hub two in 'Bridge Mode' you follow these instructions

"What settings should I use for a fibre router that's connected to a BT Openreach modem?"

"'What settings should I use for Fibre Broadband" are for when you use a combined modem/router.

Thanks Chaps its working,

I didn't realise VDSL was fibre, in part because I have copper coming to my house, through a normal BT Master Socket, so I assumed it wasn't fibre, but I guess there are variations.

ok, now how do I access the Hub2 as bridge?

Not that I need to now, but i'm curious.

I can't access it through the new router, because its upstream of the WAN port.

I pluggad a labtop into a LAN, and used ifconfig, to get a new ip address for it, but that didn't open a webpage, neither did the original ip address.

Is the only way the factory rest button?

With a bit of searching on this forum I managed to connect directly to a hub2 LAN after changing my laptop ip address and subnet mask to match the HUB2.

Curiously this was the original ip address, not the one that ifconfig produced.

The Hub Two remains at 192.168.1.254, so basically you need to give the attaching PC an IP Address between 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.253 with a mask 255.255.255.0. Connect to one of the two free LAN ports.

You shouldn't need to visit the Hub very often but it is handy to be able to check the DSL sync details and for disconnects if the occasion arises.
