I was told earlier you can get 800mb over wifi with the Plusnet router? Is this true

As I was looking to get a Netgear Orbi mesh ready to set up for full fibre

There is the theory (ideal lab conditions) and then there is the real world practicalities! The Plusnet Hub 2 5GHz specification is MIMO, 802.11a/n/ac

See IEEE 802.11 - Wikipedia for the full specification details - ac on a 20MHz channel will in theory do 693mbps - 40MHz even faster but I'm nots sure that the Hub2 does 40MHz channels, even it if does, it will back off (to be nice) if the spectrum is busy.

Where were you advices that it can sustain 800mbps ... and at what distance from the router?

It certainly is good enough. Some people will always want more, regardless of their real needs.

Which FTTP service are you on?

@rooky The PN Hub 2 is based on the BT Smart Hub which was released in 2016, people on here have reported speeds up to 500Mbps on WiFi. There are loads of articles and info of the specs if you use your prefered search engine, an example https://www.techadvisor.com/article/717057/bt-smart-hub-review.html .

Whilst you can get higher speeds from WiFi5 routers, you would need the BT Smart Hub2 to get higher speeds from a BT Group router - don't think the EE Smart Hub Plus or Pro - WiFi6 - 7 routers work on PN.

An Orbi or Asus or Lynksys WiFi 6 mesh system will give better performance for a given space.

Although these devices will give higher wireless speeds you could still be restricted by the wireless adaptor of the device being used.

I have a TP-Link router with wifi 6, the HP laptop I use maximum wireless speed is around 300 mbps where as the Pixel 7 pro is around 600 mbps.
