@markjp you do not need to setup port forwarding in order to access the DVR from your desktop. Just enter the IP address of the DVR in a browser. Port forwarding is ONLY required if you wish to access the DVR from the internet. You would also need a Dynamic DNS (DDNS) account (or have an existing static public IP) in order to do this.

Port Forwarding

Good morning Plusnet Community,

A little assistance required again from Mr un-IT!

I am trying to set up an new but old (been in box under the stairs, since it was purchased some years ago) Aldi Home Protector DVR system up at home.

The DVR is currently connected to the home network, via an tp-link extender. To get access from my desktop, I understand I have to set up Port Forwarding Is this correct?

So if I go into my Hub 2 settings, locate the DVR from the IP address, how do I enter the port forwarding rule? I have the DVR IP address, with subnet and gateway with one, 5 digit TCP Port, and HTTP Port (80). I take it I can write my own Rule Name, choose the IP address for the DVR, but what do I put in the External Ports:Start and End, Internal Ports:Start and End and the Protocol? Would that be just TCP or TCP/UDP?

Sorry but when it comes to IT technical stuff, I'm afaid, I ain't got a clue.

If any of you good people could give me a shove in the right direction, I would be most grateful.

Thank you🤔🙄

@markjp

You need to navigate from the Hubs home page to >Advanced settings >Firewall >Port Forwarding

Then select "Create a new port forwarding rue"

The Start/End ports would be the same, this is a dummy rule, forwarding 12345 to a pc called pi-hole

I've selected TCP/UDP but you may only need TCP or UDP.

You'll need a second rule for port 80.

Hope this helps.

EDIT: noticed @MisterW post so just posted instructions for creating the rule

Thank you for your super quick response, I am going to try the method of accessing the IP address first, see if that works, as its less messy!
