topic Plusnet fibre 74 with own router in My Router

I'm going live with Plusnet in a week and a half on the fibre 74 package. I'm moving to a fairly big house so have bought an Asus tuf ax4200 for the better range and for future use when I get full fibre (that isn't offered where I'm moving yet although is planned in the next year).
My understanding is that to use the Asus router I set the hub two in bridge mode. Then on the Asus router I set pppoe and my login details for plusnet. I'm confused whether I need to set vlan to 101 or not with this package and get conflicting things when I search on the internet?

You don't. The Hub 2 will automatically handle the VLAN.

Thanks for the reply, can you help me to understand what the directions on this page are for? Under the "what settings should I use for fibre broadband?" This suggest that vlan should be entered? I thought that once the hub two is set to bridge mode it did nothing but act as a modem?

https://www.plus.net/help/broadband/broadband-connection-settings/

I thought that once the hub two is set to bridge mode it did nothing but act as a modem?

That's correct, however it does handle the VLAN ID on the DSL link as do most modems that are designed to work with Openreach VDSL.

Under the "what settings should I use for fibre broadband?" This suggest that vlan should be entered?

That section is for a combined VDSL modem/router.

The section you really want is "what settings should I use for a fibre router that's connected to a BT Openreach modem ?"

You're not the first to be confused by that, and you probably wont be the last...

Others will correct me if I'm wrong but I beleive the Asus can be plugged directly into the Full Fibre ONT. Once done, you just set your PN credentials.

By the time full fibre arrives you'll know what the WiFi is like through the house. If needed, consider running ethernet cable to WiFi Access Points to improve coverage. Shouldn't be done until Full Fibre is up and running in case the ONT can't / isn't in the desired location. There are many companies that can help installing an ethernet network - even going external if required.

While perhaps not the cheapest option ethernet cable provides a solid signal and is future proof. Only the equipment at either end can become obsolete.

Thanks for the information, unfortunately fibre 74 is fibre to the cabinet and the router is plugged directly into the master telephone socket I think I need a modem to use my Asus router. When I eventually get full fibre I'm assuming they'll install an ONT?

I think I need a modem to use my Asus router.

With Fibre 74 ( SoGEA) yes, you are correct.

When I eventually get full fibre I'm assuming they'll install an ONT?

Correct again.

Apologies. I got a bit confused. Was about to post again about using your own equipment rather then the Hub2 when you answered. Fell into the trap of thinking all routers are modem / routers when clearly they're not.

When full fibre arrives you get a box (CSP) on an external wall and then an ONT (Optical Netwrok Terminal) on an inside wall. This requires power.
