topic BT router ID request in My Router

Hi folks -- I have been offered a BT Smart Hub 2 which I would keep as a spare. Vendor can't or won't identify it by WAN socket on back bu t says it's a smart hub extra hs32b. Can someone please advise what this is and whether it would suit FTTP? Thanks, Mike

smart hub extra hs32b

@Longlinerdid you really mean Smart Hub sh32b ?

In which case , all the references I can find show its an EE smart hub and I'm not sure they will accept a Plusnet username ?

edit: further information from this thread https://community.plus.net/t5/My-Router/EE-smart-Hub-3-1/m-p/1986247

That relates to the sh31b but since the sh32b is basically the same but for fttp, I suspect the same applies and it can't be configured with a PN username

@Longliner

There are no BT or EE devices called "Smart Hub Extra"

There does appear to be a device known as "EE Smart Hub Plus SH32B"

I've not looked too hard for specs, but it appears to be FTTP only and doesn't have a DSL port.

Being an "EE" branded device, on past track record, EE tend to 'lock' their firmware to only work with their service.

I've seen a forum post suggesting that the WiFi is poor - but as with all forum posts who knows the truth ?.

If it was me, I wouldn't bother with having this as a spare for backup -

I would get a third party router with QoS, decent WiFi, etc, and keep your current router as the backup.

.

Many thanks everyone, I shall save myself a 50-mile drive to pick it up! The PN Hub is satisfactory for our needs, but a spare would be handy to share with our community group. I'll keep my eyes open, no rush anyway.

It’s an EE hub and cannot be configured to connect using a Plusnet broadband username.

Specs-wise it’s practically identical to the SH31B, sans the DSL port for ADSL/FTTC services.

3x3 + 4x4 dual band Wi-Fi 6.
