One PC will not/cannot stay connected to the network

I have a number of my devices connected to our home network, all wirelessly without issue.

But my main PC (windows 10) will not stay connected. It gets a connection and loses it after a few seconds.

So far I have tried/don:

- rebooting my machine

- updating my network drivers

- uninstalling and reinstall my network drivers

- spoken with microsoft via online chat, and all they say is get a cable

- I have googled, and tried searching for any fixes recommended in various forums (such as this one)

None of these have worked. Any ideas suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advanced

@rhjones19 Is this a laptop or desktop? Have you tried the MS suggestion of a cabled connection?

If a desktop, what wireless adapter are you using? Desktops tend to work best with a wired connection. How long has this neen happening, and how long has it been successfully connecting wirelessly, previously?

Wireless USB dongle. It has always worked with zero issues when I use to live. But now it can't keep a connection. I have an amazon fire stick and wireless printer on the same wall as my pc, and neither of them have an issue.

I have a cable coming out of the wall by my desktop - but I am yet to find/establish where the other end of the damn thing comes out

The wired connection I suggest you use is between your router (which one are you using?) and the erratic machine.

What is the 'unknown' cable attached to?

take a look at the USB dongle properties, it may be possible to turn off either 2.4 or 5GHz, I'd suggest turning off 5GHz as 2.4GHz signals have better range.

EDIT: which Hub are you using?

I'm struggling to find out (only moved here a few weeks ago). It comes through a hole in the wall.

If it isn't connected to your Hub2 in some way, I doubt it is related to your internet connection - can you take a photograph and upload a picture to here?

How far is your desktop away from the Hub? - an Ethernet connection between the two is much better than a wireless one.

I would say it’s about 6 or 7 metres. My stepdad has Been able to track the cable and it has been cut

OK. I know the Ethernet cable supplied with the Hub is shorter than that, but a 10m Cat5e is cheap enough. I suggest you get one, and connect it between one of the yellow ports on the hub, and the Ethernet connection on your desktop.

@lahbrannan1 Thanks for replying, but with respect, I doubt there is anything Plusnet can do to solve this issue - it is a purely local one.

How about releasing a new version of firmware for the Hub Two, that allows different SSID for the 2.4GHz and 5Ghz bands ?

That would reduce the number of WiFi connectivity issues that get asked here over and over and over and over again !

@rhjones19 A simple, cheap, and guaranteed way to solve this problem is to connect the desktop to the hub via an Ethernet cable, as previously suggested.

While you are waiting for your ethernet cable to arrive ... ...

try switching OFF the 5GHz WiFi in the Plusnet Hub Two, and see if your PC connection works any better ?

then at time = 1:20 you should see the web page shown below,

then toggle the 5GHz wireless to OFF, then hit the [Save] button.
