I have now purchased the AX72 Pro, delivery tomorrow.

I want a better wireless (wifi 6) performance and full capabilty to adjust settings, split wifi bands, set ip addresses, etc.

My parents have Vodaphone FTTP and their provided router does not allow you to make settings changes, so I always prefer to use my own router so I am in full control. So i am avoiding any possible problems I might have with an isp provided router.

I am currently with plusnet on fttc supposedly 80/20 (actually last few years have only been max 60/20) using my own modem (TP-Link TD-W9980) which has been working well for me.

I am going to upgrade to FTTP 900 in the very near future now that it is available to me and I am about to purchase a TP-Link Archer AX72 Pro to use with the new FTTP connection as I consider the provided plusnet (BT hub2 router) to be lacking for my needs.

I assume there will be no problems setting up the AX72 Pro to use this new connection?

I assume there will be no problems setting up the AX72 Pro to use this new connection?

@boragthung Correct, you just connect its WAN port to the ONT and configure the WAN for PPPoE with your PLusnet credentials.

as I consider the provided plusnet (BT hub2 router) to be lacking for my needs.

What's missing that you need ?

The AX72 will (probably?) just about handle the 900Mb but if you wish to use any QoS then its not got enough oomph. It's only a dual core 1ghz processor

I tend to agree with you and certainly the Hub 2 isnt Wifi 6 capable.

BTW if you wish to setup and use the AX72 prior to getting FTTP, you can configure the 9970 in bridge (modem) mode and then configure and connect the AX72 to one of its LAN ports.

Thanks for that suggestion but I am initially only going to pre-prepare the AX72 (connected straight to one PC) with my passwords, internal ip addresses, set up wifi, DynDNS, etc so that when it comes to install I can just connect it, set up the WAN and the rest will already be seemless ( I hope).

It's worth considering connecting the AX72 in it's default state to your current router with it's WAN set to a Dynamic IP Address, this will allow you to see how it is performing wireless and test other functions.

You would need to ensure the AX72 IP Address range is different to your current LAN, it will also result in devices connected to the AX72 being double NAT.

I have booked my FTTP install - but it will be in a month.

I am wondering if I will be given a different name and password for the new install or if it will stay the same as the current one (of the form user @plusdsl.net) which connects to FTTC?
