Have checked that before, the AC check box is ticked but the NAS is in the list of allowed devices. I tried unticking the AC box but no different !!

Hi

I have looked around but still a bit confused. I have been lucky enough to have got a new Netgear Orbi 970 mesh system. Currently I have FTTC and a hub 2 . I understand I need to put the hub 2 into bridge mode,(having turn off its WiFi) and then I will just use the Netgear Orbi for WiFi and router. (Will need to enter username etc into Netgear setup. My question is exactly which connection sockets/plugs I use from the hub 2 to the Netgear Orbi (still have FTTC). When I upgrade to the FTTP can plug straight into Netgear….

Hi all, Further to the above I have now received the Orbi mesh system. Have set it up succesfully using the netgear app. Have put the Plusnet hub into bridging mode and internet side of things is fine. (I Have FTTC) The one issue I know have is that I have Synology NAS drive, which previously was connected directly (wired) to the hub 2, and all worked fine. Now I have directly connected it to the Orbi (wired), and the NAS works fine over the network at home, however now do not have access to the NAS from outside ie away fro the house. I am assuming its some sort of port fowarding issue? Have tried to set up port fowarding but no different...any one got any ideas...bit of a long shot I know !

Hi

I seem to remember letting the Quick connect/external access section running and configuring the modem so didnt really have any trouble (apart from some issues on my pc with the anti virus software blocking it till I realised what was happening).

I have tried running QC again but it fails as complains about DNS server address. I have configured this to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as the help pages suggest....the NAS will not connect to the internet to do any updates etc...so I suspect the Orbi is blocking it somehow!! Tried messing with manually configuring port fowarding settings in the orbi but not had any luck yet

Firstly, have you double checked Firewall settings?

Do you have any Ethernet switches in circuit? I mention this as my NAS and PC are both connected to a switch and from the switch to the router. I note that if the PC and NAS are powered up, I can remove the Ethernet connection to the router without it breaking the connection between the PC and NAS. This could cause confusion.

Try switching everything off restart and check that you still have a working internal network. If so, I would assume that this is, as you say, a port forwarding mismatch. Check both the NAS and Router settings.

Is the Hub Two light a pink colour and you are setting the Orbi router with the PPPoE login credentials?

Are you using DHCP to set the NAS IP address, for external connections the NAS will need the default gateway set, this will be the IP Address of the Orbi router.

With the Hub Two UPnP is enabled by default; did you manually setup any port forwarding rules?

As a test can you roll back to the original setup with the Hub Two in modem/router mode with the NAS connected, confirm it works as expected internally and externally.

Once working check the Hub two port forward rules found in >Advanced settings >Firewall >Port forwarding.

A UPnP rule would display a green tick below UPnP

As already stated for outbound connections there are no firewall rule required, Port forward rules are only for inbound connections to a defined device,

Do the default route and DNS settings in the NAS match the actual settings of the Orbi router ?

To be honest Im getting a bit out of my depth with the various settings and what is what. The orbi has allocated an IP address of 192.168.1.67 to the NAS. In the NAS settings it shows a default gateway of 192.168.1.254 (LAN). quite what the difference is Im not sure! The NAS works fine on home network but internet access in and out for the server not happening.

I think I will have to put everything back to how is was before with the hub 2 router and see if I can see some settings.. but am not hopefull. Unfortunately as all the equipment is from different ompanies neither are being helpfull with tech support..all blame each other as expected!!

Quckconnect was all setup and worked fine before. Now trying to run the router configuration from the NAS (which should setup the Orbi....) fails to run, just sits there trying to detect modem it says...

The NAS is configured to pick up the DNS address from your router at 192.168.1.254. Whilst this is correct for a Hub 2, from your previous post I suspect that this may be 192.168.1.1 for the Orbi. You need to check, it’s the address that you use to log into the Orbi.

I'm wondering if "just sits there trying to detect modem" means it can't find a modem or can't find the modem it was originally setup to connect to. If the latter it's never going to work, if the former it's a configuration issue but what you've done so far looks good. Will investigate on my kit...............

@Baldrick1 Found a manual but not a lot of use without being able to connect to the Orbis.

Search for 192.168 came up with "The user name is <removed>, the password is <removed>, and the LAN IP address is 192.168.1.1. DHCP is enabled.

Must say it's an impressive system.

1. Launch a web browser from a computer or mobile device that is connected to your Orbi network.
2. Enter orbilogin.com.
A login window displays.
3. Enter the admin user name and password.
The user name is admin. The password is the one that you specified the first time that you logged in.
The BASIC Home page displays.
4. Select ADVANCED > Security > Access Control.
The Access Control page displays.
5. Select the Turn on Access Control check box.
You must select this check box before you can select an access rule and use the
Allow and Block buttons. When the Turn on Access Control check box is cleared, all
devices are allowed to connect, even if a device is on the list of blocked devices.
6. Click the Apply button.

Hi

Have checked that before, the AC check box is ticked but the NAS is in the list of allowed devices. I tried unticking the AC box but no different !!

Just to be clear, everything is working on all devices including the Nas inside your network ?

The only problem is remotely connecting to the Nas which also cannot access the Internet ?

I assume locally you map drives to the Nas but how do you connent from outside ?

Are you using quickconnect or IP address + port 5000 or 5001
