Help in setting TP-Link Archer VR2800 up to Full Fibre 500

Hello Guys.
I just tried to replace my HUB2
with my old
TP-Link Archer VR2800 Router
up to my Plusnet Full Fibre 500
It did not work!

I configure the setting
by using my laptop connected with ethernet cable
to the Archer VR2800
then added the setting below.
Then disconnected the archer
and pulled the ethernet cable out of the HUB2
and put it into the back of the archer VR2800
then rebooted the archer VR2800
and it would not connect
to plusnet.
Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong plz ?

These are my settings I am using

Router set in Wireless Router Mode

Internet settings

User Name what i signed up with
password what i signed up with

VLAN ID: not enabled
connection mode Auto
Authentication Type Auto: also tried CHAP
IPv4 Enabled

Do not clone mac address on

IP address 192.168.1.254
Sub Mask 255.255.255.0

Did you enter your username in the correct format? i.e. "username@plusdsl.net" (without the "")

Edit: (I'm not familiar with your router, so can't help with anything other than the above)

Are you connecting the ONT to the LAN/WAN port of the VR2800?

What does the system log tell you? Advanced >System tools >System log

you must have been reading my mind.

that was exactly the problem

I had accidently hit a key a double time while typing giving the result of

"username@plusdsl..net"

Hence that was my problem.

Everything is working now

as I am typing to you.

If you see any problems in my listed settings don't hesitate to let me know

It was my stupid mistake that screwed it up.

one too many dots in my user name.

my old eyes did not see the mistake.

Hello Guys,
I have full Fibre 500Mbps with upload of 72Mbps
I swapped my HUB2 for a TP-Link Archer VR2800
at first it appeared to be working just fine
I was getting speed test results from
Ookla of 518Mbps download & 71Mbps upload
but after an hour it had dropped to 178MBPS to
a Max of 200Mbps.
I left the Archer VR2800 connected to Plusnet
to see if it would improve and stabalize
the speed back to 500Mbps
It never did, I assume the archer VR2800
cannot cope with the speed despite
TP-Link say it can cope with these speeds.
I have now disconnected the Archer VR2800
from Plusnet and re attached the HUB2
and all speeds are back to normal 518 Mbps and
Uploads of 72Mbps.
If anyone has any views, or thought on this
please publish them. I would be interested in reading them.

I am thinking of buying a
TP-Link BE9300 Ultra-Fast 9214 Mbps 6-Stream Tri-Band Wi-Fi 7 Router, Five 2.5G Ports,
4K-QAM, EasyMesh-Compatible,
8K streaming, VR/AR
£299.99
I would be intrested to see what other people thought
about this as a repacement for the HUB2
Do you think it would be more than up for doing the job easly?
or
Do you think this would behave like the TP Link Archer VR2800?

Why are you wanting to swap your router out if you're already achieving the max speeds your subscribed product is capable of?

I like some of the options that are in the TP Link Archer VR2800
which i cannot find in the HUB2
Like binding the mac addresses and IP addresses together
Pooling of IP addresses seems better.
and other options i miss from the Archer.

I am curiouse to know why the archer appeared to work for the first hour or so then

started lagging?

I posted so other people would have the benefit of my experience

if they chose to swap there Hub2 out.

How are you measuring speeds? If over Wi-Fi, there are a lot of variables to consider.

Allocating static IP's to mac addresses should be possible on the Hub Two, although I know there's been mixed feedback in those regards round these parts.

If you go for something higher end in the TP-Link range, then you need to consider the capability of the devices you have in your home. Purchasing a Wi-Fi 6/6E/7 router is no good if none of the devices in your home support the standard. Wi-Fi 6 devices are moderately common these days, 6E less so, and Wi-Fi 7 very sparse at the moment.

I am trying to answer your question without
going off Piste,and making it a question of
My Router rather than Full Fibre topic!
All of my PCs are Ethernet connected.
All of them have 2.5 GB network cards in them.
I am in the slow process of upgrading all of the systems.
To answer your question bobpullen
I am measuring the Download speed from Plusnet>ONT>Router>PC>CAT8
cable is used throughout all of the System.
I connect to Ookla https://www.speedtest.net/
The Archer VR2800 has been swapped in and out with the HUB2
half a dozen times and fails to maintain the network speed.
I have come to the decission to stop trying to make it work
as I believe the CPU inside the Archer VR2800 is not capable of doing the Job.
I do like to know the answer to puzzles, so if anyone does have
a good idea why the Archer VR2800 was not up to the job please
air your views and give your theory in why the speed starts off good
then reduce in speed drasticly after some time?

The CPUs of the two devices are very similar. Both BCM and both 1GHz dual core from what I can establish. Do you have any of the QoS functions switched on when using the TP-Link? Could that be stressing the CPU?

Thanks bobpullen for getting back to me on the Archer 2800

No the QoS functions are all turned off.

I have been through the router from top to bottom turning all the functions

off that I don't need to lighten the load on the router.

Still I am only getting 170 to 190 Mbps. on the Archer 2800

Each time I go back to the Hub2 I get 510 to 518 Mbps.

I think I am flogging a dead horse with the Archer 2800.

I am looking at another router that i have just posted in the Forum on.

To get other people opinions on it?

as I am not an expert on router and networking...lol
