I'm sure I'm not being totally daft here.

I can change the subnet to a /26

I can change the subnet to a /27

I can change the subnet to a /29 (which is what it is currently running with)

I cannot change the subnet to a /28

I've changed the networks around from defaults, moved the gateway address, but get the same results with trying to get a /28 network (the same error crops up).

? Anyone else seeing this ? 'Feature' of the Hub2 ? Or am I doing summink wrong ?

Maybe you have some spare time on your hands, but I am trying understand why you would want to limit the number of devices on your network to 14 or less?

I would suggest the average household user would not even consider changing the network mask as it has no benefits.

As I have posted before I do find the Hub Two DHCP server not the best, I have considered outsourcing the Hub's DHCP server function to a pi-hole which I run but I have never got round to it.

Spare time? A matter of minutes.

The subnetting isn't directly connected with DHCP. Or shouldn't be.

It's a bit odd.

The active DHCP range is within a /29 (as are all active IP addresses, as visible in My Network, and via the log entries), the gateway address is excluded from the DHCP range (but within the network), but the Hub2 refuses to accept a /28 netmask. And all IP addresses (and the DHCP pool) would be within that range of addresses <shrug>.

I may turn off DHCP and use statics to see whether the Hub2 then allows a /28. Just to exclude oddities in the code related to DHCP (and interactions with subnetting).

I might also define the start of the network at a /29 boundary and see whether the Hub2 has other (as yet unseen by me) 'features'.

I like carving up networks. The apparent functionality is there on the Hub2, but there appears to be an anomaly.

I could work with a /27 (and I have been). I can also (currently) work with a /29. But apparently a /28 isn't an option (which suggests a 'feature' in the Hub2),

All I was asking is whether others have seen similar, have I ballsed up the netmask (well, no-one's picked on that yet).

I like carving up networks

For what purpose? Is it really necessary to only have 13 useable IP addresses, one IP set aside for the router.

I very much doubt plusnet will rush to resolve this feature as it is not causing a service issue and does not make it less usable.

My understanding is the OP wants to set the Hub Two to use a 28 bit netmask (255.255.255.240), which the Hub is not allowing him to do. Using anything less than a 24 bit mask will limit the number of available IP Addresses for a Class C network

My point is why would he want to do this, if this is a defect of the Hub Two would plusnet even look to fix it?

Like you I have selected IP Addresses ranges for specific devices, however they are on the same network which has 254 available IP Addresses.

The router allows a smaller network (the /29) which has 5 'useable' addresses. Shrug.

Overall, this suggests that there's a "feature" in the Hub2. Which sort-of suggests that testing of the s/w may have been somewhat done differently.

Whether this 'feature' is otherwise useable remains to be discovered.

Perhaps the simplest solution is for the Hub2 s/w to be 'upgraded' so that it doesn't provide subnetting? That removes the anomalies at a stroke.

Counterpoint. Of course, every home network has 253 devices operating on it. And every (home) network has devices which should (by default) all be connected to the wider internet.
