Many thanks Dan.

This problem occured when I disconnected this second dd wrt router, two days later I reconnected it and problem solved my VPN returned. My knowledge of modems routers and WiFi is a little limited somewhat at. times I do blunder along in the dark so any tips and answers I receive are well appreciated.

After a bit of research online regarding NAT gives me a little bit of understanding, now can I ask you for a little bit more? Having explained my setup with these two routers how do I overcome this double NAT problem. At the moment I don't want to disconnect the second router again to interigrate it's setup.

Again thanks for your input

I have the Hub 2 router and a second router configured with DD wrt and my VPN. How do I piggy back them together some I can switch between the two to access the internet.

Thanks

How do I piggy back them together some I can switch between the two to access the internet.

Not sure why you would want to do this?

If you are still using copper based service FTTC you can configure the Hub two to be a modem (bridge mode)

Then configure the internet connection (WAN) on the DD-WRT router for PPPoE connection.

If you are Full Fibre you no longer need the Hub Two, connect the DD-WRT directly to the ONT, configure WAN for PPPoE connection.

Thanks for your replies.

Let me explain a bit better,,I have a dd wrt router installed with my VPN this I want to use for streaming where the primary router supplied by Plusnet for use with the family ipads and laptops.

My BB IS FTTC. this worked well until I disconnected the DD wrt router momentarily when I reconnected the router the VPN stopped working, the SSID can be seen but it will not connect to the net.

Assuming you haven't changed any configuration on the dd-wrt router or hub two, have you by chance connected it to the hub two WAN port rather than LAN 1, 2 or 3 ?

I take it you have a router (dd-wrt) behind a router (hub two)? This results in double NAT

How does the dd-wrt have it's IP address assigned, DHCP or Static for the WAN port?

Have you setup any port forward rules on the Hub to forward VPN traffic to the dd-wrt network? with any change of dd-wrt WAN IP Address would result in the port forward rule to break

I assume you have an outgoing VPN (i.e. you are running a VPN client that connects to a server somewhere in internet land).

In that case double NAT shouldn't be a problem, as the whole point of a VPN connection is to form a tunnel between two networks, making the intervening network topology invisible.

The only way to remove double NAT is not to have routers back to back, double NAT is not ideal but if it's working the way it is I'd leave as is.
