@Pedro78 It sounds like you didn't get the HUB2 into bridge mode properly, there should definitely be a change of colour from the normal router mode. Some say it's more like purple than pink, I don't know as I've never used any Plusnet routers.

Hi, new To Plusnet and I have a couple of questions.

I wish to use my own gaming router so I want the Hub 2 in modem mode. I know it's called bridge mode in there is that right? so I select that then plug my gaming router into the WAN port right? I have BB through a phone line (70Mbps). I've search but found conflicting information.

Q2, Can I use my own modem?

Thanks

Assuming you don't have a Full Fibre connection (i.e. the router plugs into your phone line, and not an Openreach ONT on the wall), then you would need to enable bridge mode on the Hub Two and connect an ethernet cable from the WAN port of your gaming router, to one of the first three LAN ports on the Hub Two. The gaming router will need manually configuring to use PPPoE and your Plusnet broadband username/password i.e. <username>@plusdsl.net and the password you use to log into the Plusnet website.

What make/model is the gaming router?

Excuse my ignorance but, isn't that what the hub 2 is for? to establish the connection and then pass that internet connection on to the WAN port and then onto my gaming router? not following why I need to put my login into the gaming router?

Standard Hub2 settings (although I switch the wifi off) and plug my gaming router into one of the ports 😕

I wonder why? It is the recommended way to use your own router or you will end up with both the HUB2 and your router giving out IP addresses which can cause problems, such as the double NAT situation. (Google it). Definitely not good for gaming.😫

Yeah I get what you're saying. The double NAT thing and all that, although it's a gaming router, I don't use it for that (I don't online game) I use it for the very wide wifi coverage, the ping / latency isn't mega important to me. If I can find a decent ADSL router at an acceptable price, by all means, I'll go down that route.

For what it's worth, I would do as others suggest and put your Hub 2 in bridge mode.

The setup is then very similar to what you had with Virgin Media.

When (eventually) Openreach fibre turns up you could then use your router with that and you would no longer need the Hub 2 (or similar).

There are other approches to routers and for many a mesh system suits but if your ASUS RT-AC59U does what you want at the moment I would stick with it and have minimal change.

No, the Hub 2 will act as a modem and your ASUS RT-AC59U is the router.

The connections are:

phoneline -> Hub 2 -> Ethernet cable -> Asus WAN port (the Blue one)

The Asus has the settings (as earlier in the thread) and it should "just work".

So you're saying what I suspected originally is actually correct, I can just put the Hub 2 into Modem (bridge) mode, and plug my router into the WAN port, and I'm off?

But the router WAN connection will need to be changed to pppoe and username/password entered. Its not difficult but it IS different to the virgin configuration, that uses dhcp which is what the Asus defaults to

No. The only thing that needs to have DSL capability is the modem (in this case, the Hub Two in bridge mode). The router behind it is irrelevant as it isn't responsible for establishing the DSL link with the local cabinet.

Why not take a look at the Asus WAN settings when you get a minute? Fairly certain you'll find an option for a PPPoE connection that has fields for entering a username and password.
