Replacement Router

Hi Everybody

Let me introduce myself my name is Keith and I'm very new to all this FTTP so I'd like to apologise for my ignorance at the outset.

My service was originally due to be activated on the 20th Sept however due to some confusion regarding the ONT not being registered correctly it was finally activated on the 25th Sept.

So down to my question: although the Plusnet Hub 2 is working fine I'm finding the WiFi coverage a bit limited in key areas of the house so I wondered if a replacement router such as the TP-Link AXE5400 would be a suitable replacement?

If it is any assistance you could give in how I'd set it up to be compatible with the Plusnet network would be appreciated.

@Vidman61 I'm afraid I couldn't say whether that would be any better in terms of wifi performance but it will certainly work with Plusnet. Any router that supports a PPPoE WAN connection will work, and the AXE5400 certainly does that.

To set it up, you would configure its Internet connection type as PPPoE and enter your Plusnet credentials for username & password. The username is your accountname suffixed with @plusdsl.net and the password is the same as the one used to access the member centre.

With WiFi there's no guarentee that a different router will make any difference - it may or it may not.

Before you go spending money think about alternatives - mesh systems, power line adaptors or running ethernet cable for a WiFi access point. Ethernet is always best if possible.

@Vidman61 I shared your problem, Hub Two has reasonable wifi but even a rotary drill struggles with our concrete walls. Solution was a TP-Link powerline adaptor, works a treat for the far end of the house to the router. As BMC says, ethernet cable is best if you can run it.
