Hi I’ve only recently joined plusnet, moving over from John Lewis. I previously got some excellent advice from the forum about changing over the hubs and how to rename the new hub and PW to avoid changing the PWs on our home alarm and CCTV which is extremely complicated. Anyway by renaming the new hub everything connected perfectly without the need to change PWs or get engineers out to change over the alarm but part of the CCTV isn’t connecting. I’ve sought advice from the CCTV people and they think that the problem may be that the new hub is a smart hub and the cameras may be limited to 2.4 ghz. I have no idea if this is true or not but wondered if it was easy to turn off the smart functionality, of the 5 ghz channel on the Plus net 2 hub to see if that overcomes my CCTV issue.

I hope my waffle that makes some sense. Any help much appreciated.

Hi many thanks, sorry for not responding sooner but I've been away. I've tried that changing the advanced settings and turning off the 5 Ghz channel but it hasn't worked, everything is working other than the CCTV. Any other thoughts? Is it something to do with the fact that the new router used smart channels, whatever that might be?

Thanks

Is it something to do with the fact that the new router used smart channels, whatever that might be?

@g101 smart channels is just the router attempting to listen to adjacent networks and select what it thinks is the best channel. This will not have anything to do with your CCTV not working.

As well as disabling the 5ghz , did you try changing the 'mode' as indicated by @Dan_the_Van above ?

If mode 2 doesnt work , then try mode 3

After changing the 2.4GHz Mode as suggested above are you switching the CCTV off, leaving it for about a minute and then switching it back on so that it has another go at reconnecting?

Alternatively, have you tried a full factory reset of the CCTV and set it up again from scratch?

What hub did you come from? If it was a Zyxel device, then the default IP of the router will have changed from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254. Could your CCTV still be looking for the network on the old IP address and require re-configuring?

Hi thanks everyone for your advice. We originally had John Lewis with the Zyxel router but when we moved over to Plusnet got their own router. I changed the passwords etc so that everything works with the old Zyxel passwords. It was great as nothing needed to be updated everything worked including the alarm, other devices and the smart doorbell which forms part of the CCTV but the main CCTV cameras are not working on wifi just on ethernet.

I have disabled the 5 Ghz and now tried changing the Modes to 2 and 3 and turning off the CCTV between change overs but its still the same everything working except the main CCTV cameras. I think this means calling out someone to reset the CCTV which is one of the things I was trying to avoid.

If anyone has any other ideas please let me know.

Thanks again to you all.

I that case changing the wifi settings will have no effect on the cctv cameras.

It's possible that they've been set to static ip and as @bobpullen says above, they now have the wrong default gateway set. If that's the case then the cameras need reconfiguring.

Ahh thanks, that may well be right. I can recall that the CCTV recorder which controls everything does show an IP address. I wonder whether just changing this will make things work. I can only try I guess.

At the moment the router is on Mode 3 - is it better to set it back to Mode 1 which it was originally on?

Many thanks

yes, using mode 2 or 3 will reduce the performance of the wifi
