Finally gotten my Broadband connected. The router is different from the JLP one I had. That one I could configure 2.4G & 5G networks. I don't see that facility on this one. Is there an easy way to get the 5G as standard? As simple as possible please. Thank you.

The simple answer is that you can't separate the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.

The less simple answer is that you can probably configure you old JLB hub and use that. Tell us which model you have for further advice.

I don't have knowledge of the JLP router but the issues relating to not splitting the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands have been eliminated in the Hub 2.

Are you saying that a firmware update to the Hub2 has been issued so users can now split the bands?

No, sorry, what I posted was misleading. I should have said that the issues with not splitting the band in the Hub1 has been resolved within the Hub2 hence no need to split them anymore.

Sorry I should have said, I have the Plusnet Hub Two router. On the John Lewis one you had two separate dedicated networks, one 2,4 the other 5, helped me connect the devices around the house better. Looking at the Plusnet one I can’t see a way of segregating but as someone has pointed out this router may have changed this.

@pkyorks Excuse me for butting in. If you have 2.4Ghz equipment which has problems connecting when the 5Ghz radio is on, you can disable the 5Ghz while connecting those - but don't forget to re-enable it afterwards for the 5Ghz kit.

If you really don't get on with the Hub2 and want to use the the JL Zyxel instead, please confirm its model, but effectively all you need to do on it is substitute the PN username/password - while not connected to the net.

I wouldn't say that the issues related to single SSID have been eliminated so the absence of this feature is now a positive rather than it being related to the Hub 2's connection to the BT Smarthub 2 which might need a single SSID to work with mesh.

I've found devices more often re-connect at 2.4GHz - presumably choosing signal strength over throughput - which affects streaming on a LG TV for example. Also the web interface on a Denon AVR was degraded with the non-split Hub 2 wireless. No doubt there are other examples of where the absence of this simple and common feature is noticeable.

The Hub 2 is adequate as a modem and DHCP server but I found the best solution for consistent WiFi behaviour was to turn off both WiFi bands (and with the new f/w turn off the radios completely) and use an AX1800 device (not expensive) as an access point and switch.
