topic Upgrade router to Hub Two in My Router

I’ve been a Plusnet customer for many years and on fibre broadband for the last 4 years. The Hub One router that I have tends to drop wifi occasionally and has a weak signal in various parts of my house. Is it possible to upgrade my router to the new Hub Two router?

@mikewhodges AIUI, you can request a new Hub on contract renewal, otherwise I think they are £99.00

If you have recently renewed your contract or it's coming up for renewal then ring the Customer Options Team on 0800 013 2632, and ask. You need to ask, they are not handed out automatically. If they won't supply one for the P&P charge and ask you pay the £100 price they cost, then decline.

A BT Smarthub or Smarthub 2 has the same wireless performance and can be picked up for very little money on auction sites. They need to be configured to work on the Plusnet service but you will find full instructions pinned to the top of this Router board. You can always ask again for a Hub 2 when your contract comes up for renewal.

@Baldrick1 I'm having great service since I took your advice last year and bought a HH6, but I have wondered ... is it really as good as the Hub Two? Contract ends in a couple of months and would consider Hub 2 while keeping my £15 HH6 as a spare. Thanks

The hardware is the same as a Smarthub 2 except for the colour of the case. The WiFi has the same performance. The Plusnet firmware is different and has more setting options, such as you can set your own choice of DNS resolvers. It also self configures.
If you ask for one when renewing your contract, it’s well worth the P&P charge.
The only downside compared with a HH6 is that you can’t split the 2.4 and 5GHz bands.
