Firstly, have you tried simply switching your hub/router off and on again? This can clear many issues.

If that doesn't work, what type of device are you using for the WiFi speed tests - ie phone, tablet, (Android or iPhone?), laptop etc?

Where in your house is your hub router located?

Your problem could be due to interference from neighbours, (do you live in a built up area?) - there are only a limited number of WiFi channels, (particularly in the 2.4GHz band: effectively 3 discrete channels), that everyone has to share. Is the rear of your house, where you are experiencing the problem, close to your neighbours?

What type of router do you have? If a Plusnet Hub2, log in to it by putting 192.168.1.254 in to a web browser and use the login password from the back of the router, (if you haven't changed to your own password). The select "Wireless" in the middle of the top row. For "Channels", does it say "Smart" or is it fixed on a particular channel?

If you have a mobile phone, you could try downloading a WiFi Analyser type app, which will enable you to see the relative strengths of your own and neighbours WiFi transmissions at a particular location in your house.

I'm at a loss why my wifi speed speed should vary so much. No problems up to about a month ago. The speed on the wired PC is always constant at about 70 Mb down and 20 up. The wifi speed at the back of my house now varies between 0.3 and 9Mb down even within minutes and the upload speed is often greater than the download. Is there is a simple solution to this? i am at a loss to understand the technical language used on the forum so if possible please help me in the simplest of terms. Thank you.

@obersalz

"All over house even with phone next to router there may be no sognal whilst wired connexion to PC constantly give down speed of68 and up of 18. No proximity to neighbours - garden suburb. Not time specific."

The fact that you also experience this problem with a device very close to the router effectively rules out external interference from neighbours anyway - your's should be by far the strongest signal there anyway.

"Reset many times. Sometimes OK and then within minutes wifi signal drops."

When you say you have reset it many times, do you mean powered it on and off, or a full factory reset? I suspect that the router may require a factory reset to cure this issue, or may even be faulty?

I would try a factory reset next, and if that doesn't work, then call Plusnet for possibly a new router? Unfortunately I am not familiar with the Hub 1 router, so cannot advise how to perform a factory reset if you don't already know. On my Hub 2, there is a small hole next to the routers power socket that you have to press in with a paperclip or similar, until the hub's lights change colour and then release - your's may or may not be a similar process.
