My house has an extension and the old outer wall causes blind spots for the WIFI. I have 12 months left on contract. Will upgrading to hub two be a good idea or buying a router for myself be better.

I also have to use the 5GH frequency due to a badly positioned microwave (brand new)

I have tried extenders but these also lower the speed.

Yes, @Mustrum - I know that, and I too suspect that is what they meant, but it isn't what they said. Maybe I should have said the do not/did not supply hubs/routers. 😉

I have the same problem. To improve WiFi on the top floor (plug-in extender is not good enough) I just bought an ASUS mesh system. When I tried to set it up I found that it set me up with a new WiFi network but it had disconnected me from the internet. On the ASUS system App I was allegedly connected to the Internet but my iPhone and laptop told me that I wasn’t. I had followed the advice of some gurus saying the WiFi had to be turned off in Advanced Settings on my Plusnet hub, as the Plusnet One hub cannot be set as modem only. That threw me, because I was without internet almost all day until a very nice Plusnet rep reconnected me and helped me reset my hub. I learned that I had not reset my hub properly, as I had only used the reset button but not pressed a pin into the little hole at the back for at least 20 seconds! I also learned that it was better to split the wireless into 2.4 and 5 GHz rather than leaving them combined.

The next step will be to try out the following:

Go to Plusnet router homepage, normally 192.168.1.254 then into advanced settings, wireless and turn off the 5GHz wireless. I will leave the 2.4 GHz on this time to see if I can keep my internet connection. I have a suspicion though that both need to be turned off.

The WAN cable from the blue port of one of the ASUS mesh devices then goes in to one of the yellow LAN ports on the back of the Plusnet hub. For this, the ASUS mesh device needs to be set up in Access mode, not in router mode.

Fingers crossed it will work. If it doesn’t I return the ASUS product and get the Netgear Nighthawk instead (a lot cheaper).

Hi @paulcdfb welcome to the forum.

Reading your post regarding the microwave suggests you have split the 2.4GHz and 5GHz wireless networks and given them seperate names, is this the case?

This is not possible for the Hub Two, you can turn either 2.4Ghz of 5GHz off but not give either seperate names so the Hub Two may not be the one for you.

If you buy your own device then ensure it is a modem/router (supports DSL connections) many here buy TP-Link devices

https://www.tp-link.com/uk/service-provider/dsl-router/ many of them can be wall mounted if required and support One Mesh which might help.

HTH
