Hi, I am looking to extend the range of my internet to the bottom of my garden about 100 foot away, I have tried extenders but these do not work. I want to connect a security camera that works on 2.4 Ghz only, the extenders appear to only connect to 5 Ghz, and I have this turned off as I have Ring camera, which also only works on 2.4 Ghz.

I am thinking of using two routers, connected via ethernet cable, can you recommend a second router that is compatible with plusnet routers please.

Many thanks

You could try something like a tp-link AC750 WiFi Travel Router.

Ethernet to your main router as you say and wifi at 2.5Ghz to your camera.

Regards..

@marty5000

You can use a second router but to get it to work correctly it needs to be configured as a Wireless Access Point. Alternatively you can take the cheaper option and buy a Wireless Access Point and plug that on to the end of your Ethernet cable. There are so many options just pick one in your budget and refer to it here and we will comment on its suitability.

Alternatively wait and you will probably get as many different recommendations as replies.

Hi, Baldrick1

Thanks for the response, here are some ideas for the access point.

TP-LINK TL-WA901ND 450Mbps Wireless N Access Point

Netgear WAC124-100NAS Wireless Access Point

TP-LINK EAP110 300Mbps Wireless Ceiling Access Point

TP-Link TI-was801n 300mbps Wireless N Access Point AP TLWA801N

Just a general idea of budget etc

Any thoughts feedback would be appreciated

@Martyntuttiett

Sorry for the delay in responding, I have been away for a few days.

TP-LINK TL-WA901ND

Is a Wifi extender and not recommended for this application.

Netgear WAC124-100NAS

I can't find this actual model on line. Is it obsolete? Can you post a link. I think that this might be OK.

TP-LINK EAP110 300Mbps Wireless Ceiling Access Point and TP-Link TI-WA801n 300mbps Wireless N Access Point.

Both these will work

Another option if you don't mind a bit of simple configuration. This will be the cheapest approach:

1. Get a BT Smarthub from an auction site, where they go for very little money. Use this to replace your Plusnet Hub. This will improve your WiFi in the house. You will find a lot more information on configuring and using a Smarthub pinned to the top of this board.

2. Configure your current Plusnet Hub as a Wireless Access Point. Again it's just a few tweeks of the settings. If you let us know which hub you have we can point you to the details. If in the future you have connection problems and want to revert to the Plusnet hub then all that you need to do is a factory reset and it will revert to the original settings.

I recommend doing it this way around as previously I have had problems configuring a Smarthub as a reliable Wireless Access Point
