So all you have really done is given the router a reset - good to hear you have your speeds back.

I also havent got a test socket as its connected directly to a master socket

A simple corded phone, costs less than £10, is the best tool you could have to diagnose broadband problems.

As for the tests socket, if you remove the two screws/unclip the cover it should reveal the test socket - you will need a dangly filter.

Any ISP require you to do these simple checks, why would you not want to help yorself?

well thats a bit odd...

took the socket apart to see if any wires were loose and saw loads of un-used wires... not knowing what i was looking at done some googling...figured out the extra wires but also figured out my wiring was the wrong way? flipped it round and now its back to normal speeds?

whats confusing is no-one has touched the box since it was installed 2-3 years ago?

Does it not matter which way around the wires are going to A & B on the socket?

Maybe coincidence because I have restarted the router many times and unplugged wires without success

Not wanting to cause confusion here, but those two reports do not make sense if you look at the IP profiles - one suggests a ADSL connection, the other a VDSL one?

Clearly not if it worked OK before. I would put it down to you remaking the connections.

However from the sound of things you have been playing with extension wiring. Only two cores are used, the cable might have 4 or 6, hence the unused wires. For the best speed possible your Hub should be plugged in to the maste socket not an extension, you should also fit a filtered faceplate to isolate off all the phone extensions. Filtered faceplates can be bought from the likes of Amazon. Note that there are two types, the older (and better) ones are retained by two screws, the latest version clip on. They are not interchangeable.

I'm sorry to hear that you had experienced this issue. You'd mentioned the speeds had returned to normal - is that still the case? Either way, please let us know if any further issues occur and we'll be happy to investigate the case further.
