Full Fibre wifi issues

So full fibre fitted. Wifi only works now in room where router is located. Rest of house no WiFi. PlusNet customer service tells me not their problem. Using PlusNet router. We have to buy own router, boosters or longer ethernet cables and move router around. Chsngevto EE and get a Mesh router. WHAT. Its PlusNet router whybisbit my problem. Need wifi for work so urgent

What service and router did you have previously - with which ISP?

Same router a new one wasn't sent for upgrade to full fibre. PlusNet been standard copper wire for 26 years.

Link is broken but could see enough to say two hub first on list. Was told by engineer this morning this is latest one and does work with full fibre. Can't see how to send a photo

I was lucky.

The new FTTP router had to go to a new location as it needed two mains sockets, and could not use the internal phone wiring.

VOIP would require annother socket and another 5W.

The old Plusnet Hub one router needed to be moved a metre to get coverage around the house.

I brought some LAN extenders that worked. I could not use the Plusnet HubOne as a lan extender!

A TP link one insists you use the same SSID password, but allows a different SSID for the extender.

strange, the link is OK for me. The engineer is correct in what he said, and if it worked on (presumably) FTTC, it should work on FTTP. The change of technology wouldn't affect the Hubs performance.

Hi Doug thanks. LAN extender is that a booster? Really have no idea and feel abandoned by PlusNet. Open Reach guy asked where new router was and my ethernet cables. I keep all cables soni happened to have one. Interesting you say you moved your router. Maybe a longer cable woukd help. Thks

Ok thanks. Well at least that is not the problem. Currently thinking of buying a very long ethernet cables, drilling a hole in wall and standing router in middle of house where it has always been. Maybe my Internet not stable to view the link.

@John - My new Plusnet Hub two is not near where my old Plusnet Hub one router was, so I have to use a WiFi extender for my Raspberry Pi 1.2

My bookcase blocked WiFi from my old hub to the Smart TV.

Some houses have insulation panels with a metal finish that block WiFi

I used to have a Smartphone App that told me the signal strengh of the WiFi.

During Covid, my old Plusnet 582n router , needed an upgrade as the WiFi scrambled some updates on the Raspberry Pi and Apple macbook. I had to cycle to work with my devices and ask the gatehouse if I could sit outside the canteen and pick up the WiFi at work.

I see. Seems boosters and longer ethernet cables might be the norm. Furniture and walls can be an issue. Technology going backwards. I dont think i would have a problem if the full fibre had been fitted to the same location as the old telephone network. Open Reach said original telephone installation location unsuitable. Due to glass in fibre not being flexible to bend over complicated routes

You realise you're using a consumer product for work!!!

ISP's have never been responsible for WiFi reception unless they provide kit to create a mesh system. There are too many variables to contend with.

With Full Fibre routers connect via ethernet cable so can go anywhere you're happy to run cable. If the router worked in a previous location to your satisfaction and you can run cable then that's an answer to your problem.

When I said LAN extender I meant WiFi extender. I brought a TP-Link AC750 RE220. It can use used as a WiFi Repeater, so it goes WiFi to router and WiFi to devices. You can also connect a LAN cable between it and a PC.

Hi thks. Yes got sent home during covid but now work is mainly reading and uploading completed work that I carried out elsewhere. Mostly work on site now. Never been given a work wifi set up didn't know you had to be given one.Yes I plan to buy a very long ethernet and drill hole in wall to locate router where it used to be. Before I drill I hope to move position within the room to avoid making holes!

Is it? I suppose it depends on exactly what is meant by "complicated". My fibre, after exiting the CSP box downwards, turns right, then goes around two 'right angled' walls - one outie and one innie - before turning vertically upwards prior to going through a hole in the outer wall. How "complicated" can it get before it fails?

@pvmb Without seeing the OP's installation, it is hard to comment, and it also depends on the engineer of the day - some are more accommodating/inventive than others.

Having Wi-Fi close to a Router but not further way could be seen if the 5GHz band is enabled and 2.4GHz band is not.
