That's a shame, I was hoping we could configure it as the wireless access point just for your son's iPad.

Do you have any other unused old broadband WiFi routers that could be repurposed to give your son his own WiFi ?

We have been on full fibre 74 for a while, my son keeps complaining his connection is slow, he gets 20mbps in his room & 34mbps sat next to the router which is just at the bottom of the stairs (his room is directly at the top). We did not get a new router when we switched to fibre, perhaps we need an up to date router, or is there another fix someone can suggest to get us the speeds we are paying for? There are always a lot of devices on the WiFi at the same time during the day. We tried a TP link booster in his room before but it almost made it worse! Thanks

Note the speed you pay for is measured at the Router, preferably using a wired connection. It is not the speed you get using WiFi. I assume your son uses WiFi. The more WiFi devices in use, the less bandwidth available for each one.

First thing to do is to switch off as many WiFi devices as possible and then see what speeds your son gets.

1. It would be helpful to prove that this is just a wireless problem. Do you have a computer that you can connect to the router using an Ethernet cable to do a speed test.

2. Which router have you got, see: Information about your Plusnet Router | Help | Plusnet. It should be a Hub 2 which works on both FTTC and Full Fibre services.

3. To boost the signal in another room a booster must be located approximately half way between the two locations,

I suspect an upgrade to Full Fibre 145 would cost little (if anything) but given that this looks like a WiFi problem it may not be any help.

What is the device that shows the slow speeds?

Does anything else (a phone for example) right next to the router show higher speeds?

A wired device should confirm that the incoming speed is correct (I'm 99% sure it will be).

Do you live in close proximity to many other properties (e.g. in a block of flats).

Your WiFI speed problems could be as simple as your Plusnet Hub being set to the same WiFi channel as your neighbours.

Even having just one neighbour on the same WiFi frequency channel could halve your speed, and multiple would be worse.

On a mobile phone, download a "WiFi Analyser" app, then use that to identify which are the most used WiFi channels by your neighbours, and then choose the least used channel (1, 6, or 11) and set your Plusnet hub 2.4GHz band to use that.

Then repeat the process for the 5GHz WiFi band, and again choose an unused channel (36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157, 161).

The Hub Two does not have channels "149, 153, 157, 161"

With 5GHz band using 80MHz channel bandwidth, regardless of which channel is selected (36, 40, 44, 48) are included in that bandwidth.

Is that still true? Is the device he has problems with something like a portable console?

If there is one network cable then you can use a network switch/hub to allow more cables to be connected. Plug the existing ethernet cable into the switch/hub and then plug extra cables into that for each device.

If it's a portable console, one possibility is, but it is less portable, a usb->ethernet adapter and then plug an ethernet cable into that. Choose the adaptor that says it is compatible with your son's console.
